the symptoms that affect you the most

Like every year, the winter season, the coldest one, brings with it ailments andinfluence which, however, in the last four years, have also been strongly linked to cases of contagion from COVID-19. It seemed to be a virus that had now been kicked out, with infections having decreased or, in any case, not hitting the headlines, but this is not the case. Because seeing the numbers of the latest monitoring increasingly emerges a significant number of Italians testing positive to SARS-CoV-2, a virus that has mutated over time.

And it is today in fact It’s increasingly difficult to distinguish flu from Covid, with the symptoms now appearing to be identical. The method to understand if it is one or the other is the swab, the only tool capable of detecting positivity. And with the arrival of Christmas the risk of a new boom in cases is around the corner.

New Covid peak, the risks at Christmas

In fact, as we have already told you, with the arrival of Christmas the risk of an increase in Covid-19 infections is real. It is especially because the symptoms with the flu seem the same and are often underestimated.

It can therefore happen that you go to dinners or lunches as a positive person without knowing it and risk infecting the entire family. Reason why experts launch the appeal: “If you have fever and cough, give up family Christmas lunchespecially if among the guests there are fragile people – said Gianni Rezza to The messenger-. And this applies even if you test negative.”

Rezza, in fact, underlines: “If we have a fever, it is a civic duty to stay at home.” A bit like what happened years ago, when Covid didn’t exist and with a few lines of fever or flu symptoms we preferred to stay at home to avoid infecting the rest of the family.

Flu or Covid, the symptoms that affect you the most

According to the latest monitoring on Covid-19 by the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health, relating to the week 7-13 December, new positive cases are slightly decreasing (equal to 56,404, -3.8% compared to the previous week when they were 58,637) and the incidence also drops (94 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), but deaths increase (316, +1%) and hospitalizations too. The employment rate in the medical area relating to 13 December is in fact equal to 11.9% (7,426 hospitalised) compared to 10.7% on 6 December and the employment rate in intensive care is 2.7% (240 hospitalised) ) compared to 2.5% (219 hospitalized) on 6 December.

The estimated cases of flu-like syndrome in Italy in the last week are approximately 653,000 (compared to 630 thousand in the previous week), for a total of approximately 3,628,000 cases since the start of surveillance. Cases of actual flu are on the rise.

And how to distinguish the two syndromes? The most striking symptoms in the case of Covid are the alarm bell: rhinitis, irritable cough, pharyngitis, laryngitis And low-grade fever. Let us remember, however, that there are also variants arriving with Pirola JN.1 which also have symptoms among them fever And chills, cough, tirednessshortness of breath or difficulty breathing, ache muscular, headache, loss of taste or smell, nasal congestion and diarrhoea.

So be careful, because there are many variants circulating in Italy. At the moment in Italy the main widespread variant is Erisdescendant of Omicron which represents almost 60% of cases, followed by other subvariants of the same Omicron, namely JG.3, XBB.15 (Kraken), XBB 1.9, HV.1 and BA.2.86 (Pirola).
