The Amsterdam gas market has seen a strong TTF futures price increasewhich have reached a new annual peakstanding at 40.43 euros per megawatt hour, with a increase of 5.15%.
The increase in prices is closely linked to the Ukrainian offensive in the Russian region of Kursk. The Sudzha transit station, hit during the attack, represents one of the last points of passage for Russian gas destined for Europe through Ukraine. This site, strategic for energy, has seen an average of 42 million cubic meters of gas transit per day in recent months.
The fragility of energy supplies
The increase in gas prices, as anticipated above, is closely linked to the Ukrainian offensive in the Russian region of Kursk. The Sudzha transit station, hit during the attack, represents one of the last points of passage for Russian gas destined for Europe through Ukraine. This site, strategic for energy, has seen, in recent months, an average of 42 million cubic meters of gas per day. Any disruption of supplies through Sudzha could have significant repercussions on the European energy market.
A possible interruption of supplies from Sudzha could, in fact, seriously affect countries such as Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, which are highly dependent on these resources. The energy stability of these nations is therefore closely linked to the dynamics of the Kursk region. An interruption could force these countries to look for alternative sources of supply, further increasing energy costs and potentially causing gas shortages.
There European Commissionthrough spokesman Peter Stano, affirmed Ukraine’s right to defend itself, including by striking targets on enemy territory. This EU support for Ukraine remains firm in the context of defense against Russian aggression.
Damage in the Kursk region
The offensive had devastating effects in the Kursk region, hitting the Gornal monastery and causing one death. The Kursk diocese confirmed the damage to the ancient monastery and the evacuation of the Father Superior and his brothers. The conflict, as always happens in every war, continues to inflict heavy losses not only on the targets, but also on innocents and on cultural and religious heritage.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it had stopped attempts by Ukrainian forces to penetrate the Kursk region. Former President Dmitry Medvedev supported the idea of a deeper Russian advance into Ukrainian territory, indicating a possible expansion of military operations.
During the conflict, a Russian war correspondent was seriously injured in Kursk. In addition, Russian air forces shot down six drones and five missiles launched at the region. In another development, Ukraine’s ambassador to Mexico called for Vladimir Putin to be arrested if he attends President Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration.
F-16 overflights in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed in a message on X that more F-16s will soon arrive in Ukrainian skies. These aircraft are a key element in Kiev’s defensive strategy against the Russian invasion.
In southern Ukraine, the first F-16 fighters supplied by Western countries flew over the Kakhovka district, causing mixed reactions. Pavel Filipchuk, head of the district, said that these flights are aimed at creating panic among Russian troops, although calling on the local population to remain calm.
