Rome marks a historical goal for the Animal protection: in the capital will open the first public and free Italian veterinary hospital. The structure, financed by the Municipality with an investment of 6.5 million euroswill offer free veterinary care for animals without family and, in the future, could also be accessible to citizens in economic difficulty.

How the Veterinary Hospital will work
The new veterinary hospital Public will be an avant -garde structure, with complete services for animal care. The structure will be built inside the Muratella kennel, already a point of reference for the welcome and recovery of abandoned animals of Rome and vicinity. The new structure will offer:
- Veterinary emergency room with infirmary;
- two operating rooms for surgery;
- Greenment departments and intensive care;
- Analysis and radiology laboratory for advanced diagnosis;
- Spaces for university education and veterinary research.
Who can take advantage of free care?
At the moment, the hospital will be destined for a restricted circle of subjects. In fact, even those who have access to a bonus for animals, are currently excluded. Within the structure, at first, they will mainly enter:
- Animals without family hosted in municipal kennels and cats;
- Dogs and cats awaiting adoption;
- Possible extension to individuals, with priority for those who adopt by public bodies.
The goal of the Municipality is expand access over timecompatibly with available resources and with the support of university, ASL and private individuals. Roberto Gualtierimayor of Rome, he explained:
We hope to be able to open the hospital also to citizens, starting from those who adopt animals through municipal structures.
When will the hospital open?
The Capitol announced the opening of the Veterinary Hospital By 2027. The works, started in recent days, will have an estimated 21 -month duration and foresee not only the construction of the health facility, but also the expansion of the Muratella kennel.
The total investment for the construction of the hospital and the expansion of the structures is approximately 6.5 million euros, funded entirely by the Municipality of Rome.
