The approach of Christmas and dinners with friends and family requires the Ministry of Health to do more and more careful work regarding the control of food products sold in Italian supermarkets. Precisely by virtue of this, the ministry published a new notice on 16 December 2024 recall from the market that interests a lot of mussels or mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) which are marketed under the brand Mussels Olbia. As we learn from the aforementioned notice, the presence of Escherichia coli beyond the legal limits, which represents a risk for the health of consumers. To recognize the product and avoid consuming it, you can follow a series of instructions provided by the Ministry of Health.
Recall mussels for Escherichia coli, the lot
The mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) call back by the Ministry of Health they are sold in Italian supermarkets with the brand Mussels Olbia. This is the first element of recognisability of the product covered by the notice, with the investigation activity which must then move on to other elements, such as the lot and the packaging date. In the first case, the recalled product corresponds to the serial number B5/10/12/24while in the second case the date is December 10, 2024. And again, the recalled mussels are sold in nets weighing 2kg moon.
The mussel production plant
There is a further element of confirmation that is provided in the Ministry of Health’s notice to citizens: lo manufacturing plant. More specifically, the recalled mussels were produced for Mutili Olbia Società Cooperativa by the company Arsellatori e Mitilicoltori Olbiesi Snc. The processing site is located in Sa Marinedda snc, in Olbia, in the province of Sassari. The identification mark corresponds to EU IT E5N7U.
The risks of recalled mussels
Anyone who, following an inspection, realizes that they are in possession of the mussels recalled from the market must, first of all, avoid consuming them. The levels of Escherichia coli found above the limits in the food, in fact, could lead to health risks. The symptoms of intestinal infection in this case are abdominal pain, diarrhea (including bloody), nausea, vomiting and fever. They last approximately 1 week.
How to get an exchange or refund
Consumers in possession of the recalled mussels can also request the reimbursement of the contaminated goods purchased or the change. In both cases it will be necessary to go to the point of purchase and explain your situation at the checkout center of the store, taking care to also show the regular invoice or receipt.
Food recalls within the reach of an app
The decisions taken by the Ministry of Health regarding food recalls have their maximum usefulness if they manage to reach as many consumers in the shortest possible time. To improve its communication, the department has developed aapp which, thanks to a simple system of instant notifications, allows consumers to receive in real time all of them alerts published.
