Among the best hospitals in the world, there are several Italian ones that rank among the top ones in the Newsweek 2025 Rankings by Specialization. According to the fifth edition of the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals”, the ranking drawn up by the American magazine in collaboration with the German data analysis portal Statista, the healthcare facilities of our country are in fact placed among the top 10 positions at an international level in branches such as Gynecology, Oncology and Pediatrics.
The Newsweek ranking
The analysis carried out annually by Newsweek is based on three criteria: the evaluations of 40 thousand experts, the certifications acquired by hospitals and the implementation of Patient Reported Outcome Measures, a tool for evaluating the quality of care through patient-reported outcome measures
On the basis of these areas of investigation, the weekly magazine examines 12 specialist fieldsfor each of which he draws up a classification of the best hospitals in the world: cardiology, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, pulmonology, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, orthopedics and urology.
Also at the top of the rankings this year are American facilities, such as the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, first in 6 specialties, in addition to many South Korean, German and English hospitals.
Italian hospitals
However, there is no shortage of Italian clinics, which stand out in various specializations in the global top 10. This is the case of Gemelli in Rome, ranked fourth in the world in the field of Gynecology and Obstetricswhere Niguarda in Milan ranks 19th.
The Roman Polyclinic also ranks eighth in Gastroenterologya category which sees the Humanitas Clinical Institute of Rozzano in 27th position.

As regards the Pediatrics Another hospital in the capital stands out, the Bambino Gesù, in sixth place, with the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa ranked in 27th place.
Italy also excels inOncologya specialization in which we find two Milanese structures, the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in ninth place and the National Cancer Institute in tenth place in the world.
In Cardiology The first among Italian hospitals is the Monzino Cardiology Center (Milan), eleventh at international level, followed by the San Raffaele Institute of Milan, 22nd.
Twenty-third place for Monzino in Cardiac surgerya department in which the San Raffaele hospital (San Donato Group) is ranked 38th.
In the top 10 of theOrthopedics The Rizzoli Institute of Bologna is in ninth place worldwide, while the Galeazzi – Sant’Ambrogio Hospital of Milan reaches 43rd place in the world.
In Urology34th place for the Complex Operating Unit of Urology of the University Hospital of Padua, and 45th for the San Raffaele Institute.
The San Raffaele Hospital-San Donato Group ranks 30th in Endocrinologyspecialization in which we find Gemini in 45th position, 29th in Neurologya department in which the IRCCS Istituto Besta Foundation ranks 15th in the world.
As regards the Neurosurgerywe find the “Carlo Besta” Institute of Milan in 17th place again and the Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda of Milan in 57th place.
Finally, for Pulmonology still Gemelli, which ranks 49th and the San Camillo Forlanini Hospital in Rome, 60th.
