What are the risks of taking pesticides?
THE’intake of pesticides through contaminated food is a real risk. These chemical compounds, used to protect crops from parasites and diseases, can leave traces in the foods that end up on tables. Although quantities are often considered within safe limits, accumulation over time or accidental exposure to high levels can result in significant consequences.
Ingesting pesticides in high dosesas could happen with products that do not comply with regulations, can cause immediate symptoms such as:
- nausea
- abdominal pain
- vomit
- diarrhea.
In more severe cases, neurological problems, seizures and, in extreme situations, life-threatening reactions can occur. Even without immediate symptoms, prolonged exposure to small amounts of pesticides can pose a health hazard. Scientific studies have linked chronic intake to an increased risk of serious diseases, including tumorshormonal problems, infertility and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s. Pesticides, in fact, can interfere with the endocrine and immune systems, undermining the body’s natural defenses.
