Nico Losito is the new General Manager

Losito’s appointment marks a passing of the baton in the name of continuity and internal experience, at a crucial moment for the Italian technological market, increasingly oriented towards the integration of generative artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud in industrial processes.

Who is Nico Losito: an internal career dedicated to innovation

Nico Losito is not a new face for IBM. Prior to this appointment, he held the role of Vice President Sales of IBM Technology for Italy. His career within the Group was characterized by a profound knowledge of market dynamics and the most advanced technological solutions.

In the past, Losito also held important positions at an international level (EMEA) and led the Software and Cloud division of IBM Italia, managing the transition of numerous Italian companies towards modern digital infrastructures. His appointment is seen by analysts as a move to consolidate IBM’s leadership in supporting the country’s digital transformation.

The legacy of Alessandro La Volpe

Alessandro La Volpe leaves the leadership of IBM Italia after a mandate that began in July 2024. During his management, La Volpe pushed forcefully on the accelerator of generative AI, underlining how this technology can generate added value for the Italian economy estimated at around 90 billion euros.

Under his leadership, IBM strengthened the positioning of watsonx, the data and AI platform for the enterprise, and advanced the development of quantum computing as a technological frontier complementary to artificial intelligence. The company expressed gratitude for the results achieved, wishing him the best in his future endeavors.

Challenges for 2026: Agentic AI and Hybrid Cloud

Nico Losito’s tenure begins in a year, 2026, that IBM has identified as the maturity year for agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration. The priorities for the new General Manager will be clear:

  • Accelerate the adoption of AI in production: Move from pilot projects to large-scale deployments that optimize costs and business processes.
  • Governance and trust: ensuring that autonomous systems are transparent, secure and compliant with regulations, a theme dear to IBM which focuses on “trust” as a distinctive value.
  • Hybrid cloud consolidation: support the over 4,000 Italian businesses that already use IBM and Red Hat OpenShift platforms to manage their data securely and efficiently.

IBM’s role in the country system

IBM continues to be a strategic partner for key sectors of the Italian economy, from financial services to telecommunications and public administration. With over 175 countries served globally, the Italian branch under the leadership of Losito will be called upon to interpret the needs of an entrepreneurial fabric made up of large groups but also of a dense network of SMEs that require scalable and secure solutions.
