Autostrade, the toll has increased since August: how much we will pay more

Motorway tolls increase. An amendment of the speakers to the DL Infrastructure aims to let the annual fee paid to Anas rise, starting from first August. The increase is therefore one euro every one thousand kilometers and includes all categories of vehicles.

A bitter summer surprise for the Italians, packaged by an amendment of the speakers just filed as part of the conversion law of the Infrastructure Decree and which will vote on Monday in the Commission in the Chamber.

The increases

In detail, the increases are as follows:

  • an increase of 1 thousandth of euros per kilometer for the toll classes A and B, therefore cars, SUVs, campers and motorcycles;
  • 1 thousandth of euros per kilometer for the toll classes 3, 4 and 5, then the axes of trucks and trains.

The increase in the tolls foreseen from August 1st will allow Anas to definitively cover the needs of resources that has increased in recent years. Explains the amendment:

This needs amounted to around 90 million euros per year, corresponding to the additional income expected by the increase in the fee. In particular, the expected revenues were estimated by taking as reference the volumes of traffic detected in 2023-equal to about 87 billion of vehicles-and taking into consideration the incremental trend detected in the first part of 2024 (the final final for annuality 2024 is not yet available). For the year 2025, therefore, the expected income is around 37 million euros.

The purpose of the increases is therefore that increase the annual fee paid to Anas. But apparently the additional revenues from the tolls will not be destined for maintenance of the highways; The amendment refers to the redefinition of the network under anas management and the increase in costs for lighting public.

Consumer associations: “Pedaggi increase is shameful”

A real summer sting from 90 million euro“Designed to hit motorists in the period of the most use of the motorway network”, heavily criticizes Codacons. But not only that, because according to the association:

Based on the proposed amendment, the money guaranteed by the increase in tolls would not go to the maintenance of the roads, nor to road safety, but would be used to cover extra expenses such as lighting and various management costs. In this way, users would be doubly damaged, paying higher tolls without receiving any improvement in motorway services in exchange.

A very bad summer surprise for the Italians, who arrives just when millions of citizens will travel on the highways to reach the holiday resort. An increase of everything unjustifiedconsidering that the service rendered to users is not improved at all. The president of Assoutentuteni Gabriele Melluso explains:

The perennial construction sites on the network and chronic infrastructure problems of our highways continue to create daily inconveniences and disservices to the detriment of millions of motorists.

Schlein: “presented a sub amendment”

The secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schleinimmediately replied to the indiscretion that the majority would be ready to increase motorway tolls.
