Business payments, the ranking of cities late: record recovery of Naples

A new report of the Local Authorities Study Center has identified an improvement in payment timing of the cities to companies in charge of carrying out works and public services. There are less and less the provincial capitals that tease the maximum number of days for the balance of the debts of the public administrationswhich the law establishes at 30 days.

The average time for the payment of an invoice it has reduced 5 daysbetween 2023 and 2024, bringing the data well below the legal limit. Today, on average, a city pays the companies that work for her within 24 days. However, there are more virtuous municipalities and others that are still very in difficulty.

The cities pay first debts with companies

According to the Report of the Study Center Local Authorities, between 2023 and 2024, the number of provincial capital cities that have blurred the terms for the payment of invoices to companies on average has halved. In 2022 there were 41 in total the municipalities that did not respect the deadlines. This number was reduced first to 27 in 2023, 24% of the total. Last year instead, 15% of the total has passed to 15.

The net reduction of the payment times recorded also in the national average is even more important, because it has reported the data within the limits established by law. In 2022, on average, the provincial capitals took 34 days to pay an invoice. In 2023 they passed to 29. In 2024, finally at 24 days.

The ranking of cities delayed

These are results in great improvement, but this does not mean that problematic realities still remain. Some of the 13 cities that still find delays, show off the limit imposed by law of 30 days several times. The three worst City are:

  • Caserta, in Campania, with an average of 70 days for payments;
  • Vibo Valentia, in Calabria, with an average of 87 days for payments;
  • Andria, in Puglia, with an average of 145 days for payments.

Absent, for the first time for years between the last three, Naples. The Campania capital has been the worst ever in payment times for years. In recent years, however, he has been the protagonist of a clear improvement in the relationship with the companies that work for the local public administration. In this way he managed not only to leave his last position, but to leave the list of the last three provincial capitals.
