After the price cap on fuel, Eni has also announced a similar measure for electricity and gas bills, of which it is a supplier through the company Plenitude. The new discount would reduce prices relative to the market cost of energy by 30%. According to the company, the offer would save up to 200 euros per year.
Eni’s two main competitors on the free market for electricity and gas users, Enel and A2A, responded to the news by underlining that they already had offers available that were completely similar or with comparable savings to Eni’s.
Eni’s ceiling on bills
The characteristics of Eni’s offer are a little different from a simple “price ceiling”. In fact, it is about:
- a 30% discount on the energy component of the bill;
- an offer applied only to the Fixa Time 24 Smart tariff;
- a freeze on raw material prices for 2 years if signed by October 24th.
The offer requires Eni to consider the market price of tomorrow 1 October as a fixed price. It will then apply a 30% discount to the energy component. Consider that price as fixed for the next 2 years. The components of the bill that are not energy, i.e. general charges, network tariffs and taxes, remain outside the offer. Those can always change.
How much you save with the cap on Eni bills
According to Eni, by choosing this tariff for electricity and gas, the savings would be around 200 euros compared to the Fixa Time 24 Standard tariff, the basic one, offered on the same day. However, there is one issue to consider: the price of energy is currently very high. Even with the 30% discount, it is not certain that the rate will remain affordable in the next 2 years.
For example, since February 2026 the average prices of the energy component have increased:
- 81.7% for light;
- by 126% for gas.
If prices returned to pre-war levels, therefore, Eni’s tariff would become more expensive than the market price, even considering the discount. However, this is where the free market for utilities comes into play. If this were to happen, the user can simply change offer or provider, through quick procedures, via the internet, in less than 24 hours and without ever losing their energy supply.
How to get the discount on your bill
Eni’s offer will be available from 1 to 24 October 2026, and all users will be able to access it, both new Eni customers and people who already use the Plenitude supply. To take up the offer, simply go to the Eni website and choose Fixa Time 24 Smart. The ride can also be requested in person at Plenitude offices or via call center.
Enel and A2A respond to Eni
Two of the company’s main competitors on the free utility market, the former state monopolist Enel and A2A, responded to Eni’s offer, both underlining that they already had offers comparable to Eni’s available.
The offers from Enel and A2A
Enel claims to have had “the lowest offer among primary operators” since April. This offer would offer a discount of 200 euros per family. A2A, however, underlines that from 2023 it will offer domestic consumers the possibility of freezing the price of energy from renewable sources for 10 years.
