The sting on Italian summer holidays is confirmed, with all the voices related to travel and tourism that mark very strong increases compared to last year. Istat data on retail prices confirm this: in July the national consumer price index for the entire community recorded an increase of 0.4% on a monthly basis and 1.7% on an annual basis (stable compared to the previous month).
Stable inflation but growing prices
The fact that the general index remains at +1.7% as in June does not have to think about a stable situation: indeed, both the obliged and those related to holidays are increasing compared to last month. The shopping cart deceives from 2.8% in June to 3.2%, which is equivalent to an expense of 376 euros on an annual basis for a torque with 2 children, 261 for an average family.
According to the Unc – National Consumer Union:
Translating inflation of +1.7% in terms of increasing the cost of living, for a couple with two children, an overall rise in the cost of living equal to 606 euros on an annual basis, but of these 356 only go to food products and soft drinks. For a couple with 1 child, the additional annual expenditure is equal to 547 euros, but 315 euros are only for food and drinks.
Continuing with the data, the prices of homes, water, electricity and fuels (from +2.4% to +0.6%), receptive and catering services (from +3.6% to +2.9%) and those of communications (which expand the flexion from -4.3% to -4.8%) are slowed down. Instead, the prices of:
- other goods and services (from +2.6% to +3.2%);
- Food products and soft drinks (from +3.5% to +3.9%).

The increases in July, how many increases for the holidays
At the top of the top ten of monthly raises, national holiday packages mark +16.1% in just one month. Alarms the fact that 6 out of 10 voices in the ranking of the economic increases concern the holidays. Here are all the increases:
- National holiday packages: +16.1%;
- Holiday villages, campsites, youth hostels and the like: +15.7%;
- Intercontinental flights: +14.3%;
- Binding services texts and e-book downloads: +10.3%;
- bathing establishments, swimming pools, gyms, disco entrance: +7.3%;
- European flights: +4.3%;
- Electricity Free Market: +4.0%;
- banking and financial expenses: +4.0%;
- Supports with recordings of sounds, images and videos: +3.7%;
- means of transport and sharing: +3.4%;
- Maritime transport: +3.4%;
- Pensions and the like: +3.4%
As imagined, the summer 2025 is particularly salty for Italians, and Istat comes today the confirmation of the very strong increases in prices and rates that are affecting the tourist sector. Increases that have brought a very big slice of citizens to give up on summer holidays.
