The expected boom in registration was not after the reform to Medicine in the year 2025. Foracademic year 2025-2026I am 64.825 Students who completed the enrollment phase to the so -called “open semester”, of which:
- 54,313 have chosen medicine;
- 4,473 dentistry;
- 6,039 veterinary medicine.
Last year 71,508 were registered in the tests, of which 67,260 for Medicine and 7,862 for veterinary. THE places available this year will be more than 23,000. It means that 1 subscriber out of 2 will have to change its way.
How the open semester works
The novelty is the result of the reform wanted by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, which marks the passing of the traditional entrance test to closed -number medicine.
From the 1 September 2025all subscribers can start attending lessons of semester openin the presence or remotely, without any preventive selection.
The route is composed of three teachings Basic:
- Chemistry and biochimic preparatory;
- Physics;
- Biology.
Each of these teachings is worth 6 university training credits, for a total of 18 CFU.
At the end of the semester, students will have to support exams national profit, identical for all universities and planned simultaneously. Are provided two appealswith an equal structure for each subject:
- November 20, 2025;
- December 10, 2025.
The tests will be composed of 31 questions In total: 15 questions will be multiple answer and 16 open -answer questions. For each exam the students will have 45 minutes of time.
The national ranking
The results of the three exams will constitute the ranking national, which will determine who will be able to access the second half of medicine and surgery.
The vote will be the classic one of the university exams: expressed in thirtieths with the possibility of praise, and it will be necessary to obtain at least 18/30 in each test to be considered suitable. Only those who have passed all the exams with the minimum threshold will participate in the final ranking.
The rankings will be published the January 12, 2026. From 13 January 2026, each aspiring doctor will be able to enroll in the chosen degree course. THE’enrollment must be made by January 16, 2026.
What happens to those who do not exceed the selection
Students who do not return to the places available for medicine, but will have obtained at least 18/30 in each exam, will not lose the year: they will be able to continue during the similar course to which they have enrolled parallel, keeping the credits already acquired.
You can register again at the semester filter up to three times, even in non -consecutive years. In this case, it is not left from scratch, but the even obtained clifers can be reused.
From private to public universities
Those who had already enrolled in Medicine at a private university can, if they wish, move on to a state university in order to overcome the semester filter. Of course, you cannot be enrolled simultaneously with two medical courses: the transition to the state road enrolls in the private university.
Those who have already supported subjects similar to those of the semester filter will remain disappointed: for these exams the recognition of the CFU already obtained is not foreseen. For all the other subsequent exams, however, the recognition of the CFU is possible: by presenting regular request, it will then be the single university to approve the validation or refuse it.
How much the semester filter to medicine costs
Registration for the semester filter of the Faculty of Medicine Costa 250 euros. This is a fixed contribution applied by all universities. By paying this figure, you are entitled to attend the semester and to take the related exam tests.
At the time of actual enlargement, that is, once the fixed semester has profit, that contribution of 250 euros is deducted from annual university fees.
