All skipped, nothing Increase in tolls on the highway. The news, circulated yesterday, had aroused many controversies between consumer associations and in the political world. In the evening, the vice premier and minister of infrastructure and transport, Matteo Salvini, asked to withdraw the amendment to the infrastructure law decree, signed by the speakers of all the majority forces. In the night, the step back came.
Who wanted the amendment? Doubts within the majority
An amendment to the Infrastructure Decree, presented by the speakers during the examination in the Transport Commission in the Chamber, provided that from the beginning of next month the annual fee paid to Anas could undergo “1 thousandth of euro a kilometer for both miles both for the toll classes A and B and for the toll classes 3, 4 and 5”.
The vice premier and minister Matteo Salvini However, he asked for the withdrawal of the amendment. The League, shortly after the minister’s move, withdrawn his signature and made it known that he would not vote for the amendment. Then came the declaration of the Deputies of Fratelli d’Italia, Antonio Baldelli and Massimo Milani, speakers of the DL Infrastructure:
We would never dream of carrying out an amendment not shared by the competent minister, and therefore we welcome the invitation of Minister Salvini with great favor to withdraw the amendment regarding the theme of the Suppecanone in favor of Anas.
So all resolved? It does not seem, also because, according to the voices that filter from brothers of Italy and which reports the Corriere della Serait was the League that wanted this amendment. A step back who, according to Giorgia Meloni, should not be done: according to him, it is necessary to take responsibility for the advanced requests, and this was precisely of the Ministry of Transport.
The question closes here officially. THE 90 million provided for the increase in tolls will be recovered elsewhere. But the tension in the majority remains high, after numerous cases that have not produced measures but only clashes.
What the increase involved
In case of definitive approval of the decree, what would have changed? The standard on the motorway tolls would have started starting “from the first day of the month following that of entry into force of the provision”. Already from 1 August, therefore, vacationers and motorists could have seen an increase in rates at the toll booth. The expected increase, equal to one euro every one thousand kilometers, would have affected all the toll classes: cars, SUVs, campers and motorcycles in categories A and B; Axis of trucks and trains in those 3.4 and 5.
As already mentioned, the increase would have brought 90 million euros to the Anas coffers. Resources that, however, Anas would not have intended for motorway maintenance, but for public lighting roads and other costs for Anas’s activities.
Schlein (Pd): “Tax on Italians who go on vacation”
Among the trade associations, Solos He had criticized the announced increase in tolls as a “risk for millions of motorists”. President Gabriele Melluso to the government asked for a monitoring
aimed at identifying the virtuous routes, and for which the increases of tolls can be arranged, and the most critical ones, which cannot be the subject of economic benefits
The comment of the President of the National Consumer Union, Massimo Dona, who had defined the possible “shameful” increase, had also been on caustic tolls. The amendment had immediately aroused the protests of the oppositions, with the Democratic Party that also criticized the use of emergency decrease. “Even today Giorgia Meloni tries to put an extra tax, this time on Italians who go on vacation,” said the secretary Elly Schlein.
