RC Auto down, in April prizes 3.2% down but strong differences between North and South

Good news arrives for Italian motorists: according to the Observatory RC Auto Facile.it – Insurance.it, in April 2025 the average car insurance premium dropped by 3.2% compared to six months ago, reaching a 628.79 euro.

The data in the regions

The territorial analysis reveals that, last month, car RC prizes decreased in most Italian regions, although with significant variations from one area to another and some exceptions. The most marked drop on a half -yearly basis was recorded in Lombardywhere the average prize dropped by 6.6%. Follow the Friuli-Venezia Giulia (-5.9%) and the Veneto (-4.8%). Immediately after we find theEmilia-Romagnawith a reduction of 3.6%, and the Trentino-Alto Adige (-3.3%).

However, not all regions benefited from this reduction trend: on the contrary, in Calabria, an increase of 3.4%, followed by Sicily (+2.3%) and Basilicata (+1.6%), was observed. All three regions of the South; Reasons for these increases can be less competition and barriers to entry for new operators, a higher perception of risk and a lower diffusion of telematic solutions and personalized profiling.

Andrea GhizzoniManaging Director Insurance of Facile.it, commenting on the results states:

“From the market, positive signals continue to arrive on the ARC front front and, after years of increases, the prizes have stabilizing, albeit not throughout Italy, the first drops”, he explains. “Elements such as the slowdown of the inflationary thrust and the decrease in the frequency of claims are having the first virtuous effects on tariffs, but it is still early to say if it is a trend that will continue in the next few months”.

What can happen in the future

In the near future, if the inflation and frequency of sinister They should be maintained on current levels, a substantial stabilization of the car RC prizes is expected, with possible slight further reductions. On the contrary, a surge in repair costs, for example following new environmental rules or interruptions in the supplies of raw materials, or a peak in road claims, could reverse the trend on the downward and restart the increase.

In the background, a targeted regulatory intervention, such as the reduction of litigation times or an intensification of the anti -theft measures, would instead have the potential to trigger a structural reduction of rates in all regions.
