Leonardo Del Vecchio’s heirs remain firmly in first place in Piazza Affari’s Scrooge McDuck 2026 ranking, but the value of their holdings drops by over 7 billion euros. Technology stocks, on the other hand, shine. This is the ranking drawn up annually by MF-Milano Finanza, updated to the prices of 7 August.
The complete ranking of the Scrooge McDuck 2026
The Del Vecchio heirs maintain the top of the ranking, thanks above all to their stake in EssilorLuxottica, in addition to the shares held in Mps, Generali, Unicredit and Covivio. However, the value of the investments fell by 7 billion euros, the largest reduction in absolute terms among the names in the ranking, equal to 13.73%. In the meantime, the Rocca family consolidates second place: the value of the stake in Tenaris goes from 9.9 to 15.2 billion euros, with a growth of 54%, equal to over 5.3 billion in twelve months.

The real revolution comes from the technology sector. The Crippa family, which controls Technoprobe, was sixteenth a year ago with 2.6 billion euros and today is fourth with 10.4 billion. In twelve months the value of their share grew by almost 300%, thanks to the boom in the microelectronics company’s stock market. Technoprobe is the world’s second largest manufacturer of probe cards, indispensable devices for testing the correct functioning of microchips.
Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone rises from fifth to third step of the podium, with 12.5 billion euros, over 4 billion more than a year ago. Above all, growth is supported by the value of shareholdings linked to the main Italian banking risk operations.
The other movements
By broadening our gaze to the top 50 positions, movements emerge that reveal how selective the stock market has been in the last year. Among the most visible rises is that of the Maramotti family, shareholder of Credem, which gains six positions and rises to 22nd place: the value of the stake goes from 1.35 to 2.15 billion, with an increase of 60%. The Ermenegildo Zegna family does even better, moving up from 29th to 24th place thanks to share wealth that has grown by 75%, from 1.19 to 2.08 billion.
On the opposite front, the most obvious shrimp move into the top 50 is that of the Salini family. The value of the stake in Webuild drops from 1.54 billion to 935 million, almost 40% less. The family thus loses 18 positions, going from 25th to 43rd place. Boroli-Drago also fell, from 30th to 47th place, with 814 million euros (-25%). Gustavo Denegri, on the other hand, loses nine positions and stops in 28th place, with 1.9 billion linked to the stake in DiaSorin, down 12.5%.
But the State remains the richest Scrooge
Above all, however, there continues to be a Scrooge McDuck who is out of the league: the Italian State. If in 2025 the value of public shareholdings registered had reached 81.5 billion, twelve months later the total exceeded the triple digits and reached 111.1 billion. The increase in absolute terms is over 29.5 billion, equal to 36.2%.
The Ministry of Economy directly has holdings of 55.5 billion euros, divided as follows:
- Enel – 24 billion;
- Poste Italiane – 10.42 billion;
- Leonardo – 10.16 billion;
- STMicroelectronics – 6.43 billion;
- Monte dei Paschi di Siena – 1.75 billion;
- Eni – 1.53 billion;
- Enav – 1.50 billion.
Added to these are the investments of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, which are worth a total of 54.7 billion euros:
- Eni – 21.8 billion;
- Poste Italiane – 12.46 billion;
- Snam – 6.15 billion euros;
- Terna – 6.05 billion euros;
- Fincantieri – 3 billion euros;
- Italgas – 2.68 billion euros;
- Saipem – 1.1 billion euros;
- Nexi – 979 million;
- Webuild – 389 million;
- GPI – 74 million;
- Trevi – 64 million.
