The risks associated with the products are quite serious, so much so that the ministry has asked us to pay attention to consumption. In fact, the warning is not to consume it due to a high risk of contamination by a dangerous substance.
Recall for vegan products: risk of PA intake
With notes from October 25th the Ministry of Health (also present ondedicated app) has decided to recall a series of potentially dangerous products. These are meatballs and burgers from three brands.
These are: Più Bene, Germinal Bio and Alpeker Natur. For all products, the alarm is triggered by the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) in value higher than that expected in the seeds. The product recall, scheduled for October 25, 2024, comes with a warning. The notes read:
Do not consume the product and return it to the point of sale.

What are the risks of taking high amounts of pyrrolizidine alkaloids?
The pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) are natural toxic compounds produced by some plants as a defense against predators and insects. They are present in addition 6,000 plant species throughout the world, as in borage, senecio, echinacea and St. John’s wort, all plants commonly used for phytotherapeutic or food purposes.
