Strikes of the week 5-11 October, ATM blocks Milan: the times

In the week between 5 and 11 October there will be several strikes, including two particularly important ones in local public transport. In fact, Atm, the Milanese transport company, and Gest, which operates Florence’s trams, will stop.

Together with ATM, the employees of Net, a company that operates buses in the province of Milan and Monza and Brianza, will also stop. In addition to these mobilizations, various agitations in the environmental hygiene and telecommunications sectors should be noted.

The strikes of Wednesday 7 October

The first strikes of the week from 5 to 11 October will arrive on Wednesday 7, when the employees of Ericsson of Genoa, in the telecommunications sector, will stop. The mobilization is organized by Fistel Cisl and Sic Cgil, against the 131 layoffs announced by the Swedish multinational in the Ligurian city. However, on Monday there will be a meeting at Mimit to open negotiations on the exits.

Also on the 7th there will be three strikes in the environmental hygiene sector. Employees will stop:

  • of the Ecoce Ecology in Progress of San Marcellino
  • of DM Technology of Quarto;
  • of Ecoce Srl of Ottaviano.

Finally, on October 7th, the employees of the Vicenza Revenue Agency will stop for three hours, from 9 to 12.

8 October, mobilizations in the PA and healthcare

There will also be strikes on October 8th and they will affect public sectors. The employees of FS Security, the company that takes care of security on trains and in railway stations in Sicily, will stop from 6am to 10pm.

This will be followed by a mobilization throughout the day of the employees of the Rubicone and Mare Union, a union of municipalities in the province of Forlì-Cesena. Finally, the strike of the employees of the Sassari university hospital will begin on 8 October and continue throughout the 9th, which could cause delays and inconveniences in the provision of healthcare services.

The ATM and Net strike on 9 October

However, the most critical day for strikes this week will be October 9th, when ATM and Net employees will stop in Milan and in the provinces of Monza, Brianza and Bergamo.

The strike is organized by Confial Trasporti and Cobas. Even if they are not the most representative unions in the sector, the last time these unions went on strike, the M1, M2 and M3 lines of the Milan metro had to close in the evening due to lack of staff.

The strikes will last throughout the day, but there will be varying guarantee bands depending on the company involved:

  • Atm in Milan will guarantee trips from the start of service until 8.45am and from 3pm to 6pm;
  • Net Trezzo will guarantee trips from the start of service until 8.45am and from 3pm to 6pm;
  • Net Monza will guarantee trips from the start of service until 9am and from 11am to 2pm;
  • The Como-Brunate funicular will guarantee rides from the start of service until 8.30am and from 4.30pm to 7.30pm
