because looking at a picture increases well -being

It takes little. Looking carefully a work of art can represent a way of preserving psychophysical well -being. Fixing yourself on the details, abstract, trying to grasp the color shades becomes a potential support for health. And not only in a museum, but also in the hospital. And perhaps also on a table perfectly reproduced on a volume, as proposed the volume dedicated to a precursor of the Renaissance, author of works that paved the way for a much more realistic and human representation of the sacred than in the past. We are talking about Cimabuethe great master told this year by the Volume of Art Menarini, presented in Arezzo.

The work of art helps health

The research examined about forty studies published previously, with data relating to almost 7000 participants, was conducted by a team of psychologists from the University of Vienna, the Trinity College in Dublin and the Humboldt University of Berlin and appeared on Journal of Positive Psychology. Among the works of art included in the review there are famous works such as Edvard Munch’s scream, The starred night of Vincent Van Gogh and other great representations of modern and contemporary art.
Previous research suggested that The vision of works of art can influence mood or the Stretss, but this study adds fundamental data, analyzing a series of data together. In particular, it has been seen that the vision of works of art can Improve eudemonic well -beingor the well -being associated with the meaning of life and personal growth.

Tailor -made health interventions

It must be said that, according to research, the benefits related to the observation of art appear independent of the place in which the artistic “stimulus” is proposed. In fact, the value of the “treatment” in museums and galleries has been seen, as well as within the hospital or even through virtual reality.

“Often we think of art as a luxury, but our research suggests that the vision of works of art, both as a hobby and as targeted health intervention, can contribute significantly to well -being. Reforming art as a resource of well -being and low cost, this research opens interesting possibilities to integrate art in daily environments and in public health strategies”

He reports in a note Mackenzie Trupp, the main author and researcher at the University of Vienna and the Radboud UCC, deeders Institute.

Since 2019, it must be remembered, WHO recommends the use of creative approaches Together with medical care because art helps to satisfy people’s need to seek meaning in life, build self -esteem and develop positive identities, important factors to face the difficulties of every day and any psychophysical problems.

The work of Cimabue in a book

The monograph that becomes part of the Menarini Group’s art necklace, published by Pacini Editore, is dedicated to Cimabue. As Miriam Fileti Mazza recalls,

“The volume of art Menarini on this great master retraces the visual story of the one who, leaving the primitive Byzantine painting, opened the way to the new art that he would then led to the Renaissance. His painting distant over time is regained of perception, still giving mystery, naturalness and the ancient charm of the origins”.

Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti, shareholders and members of the Board of Menarini, comment:

“To carry out the tradition of the Menarini art volumes means cultivating beauty as part of daily life for more than half a century these monographs, which are characterized by their simple language, even those who did not think they could fall in love with their art”.

Over the years the artistic vocation of the group has evolved with the multimedia project Menarini Pills of Artshort video pills in which experts in the sector tell anecdotes and curiosities of the protagonists of the Menarini art volumes. These content are available on the Menarini YouTube channel in eight languages.

Who was Cimabue

The artist of which we know through the documentary sources, was born most likely in Florence around 1240 with the name of Bencivi di Giuseppe, nicknamed Cimabue. His formation is due to Coppo di Marcovaldo, the most fame painter of the moment. While the year of his death is likely that it was 1302.
There are very few certain works that have come down to us; To make the study of his art difficult was also the very precarious conservative state in most cases and even bad when the deterioration of the time – think of the frescoes of Assisi where instead of the shiny Biacca of those distant days, the black of the lead oxide soon arrived – the terrible offense of a flood or the earthquake had joined.
But the expressive force of the art of Cimabue was stronger than an adverse fate and the story of the faith that his works narrate, still details the absolute novelty of a painting projected towards Giotto’s naturalism. The first work of Cimabue, datable around 1270, is the shaped wooden crucifix, painted in tempera and gold, placed above above the main altar of the Gothic church of San Domenico in Arezzo.
