70% of the funds destined for road maintenance He was hijacked in another project very dear to Matteo Salvini. This is a decision that, beyond the use of billions in another intervention, can concretely put the construction sites ready to leave concretely at risk, which are suddenly found without the necessary money.
The complaint came fromNational Union of Provincesgathered in recent days, which has calculated an amount of cuts equal to 1.7 billion euros. While the mobilization brought Pasquale Gandolfi to a meeting with Giorgia Meloni, called “positive”, the Minister of Transport promised during an intervention in Genoa that a part of the funds will be recovered and destined for the city.
The complaint of the provinces
The Ministry of Transport cut the funds for road maintenance. According to the National Union of Provinces, the cut amounts to 1.7 billion euros compared to what is allocated by the government for the interventions.
In some provinces the cuts are greater because the greater the need for intervention on the road surface. An example is Emilia-Romagna (after the damage caused by extreme events), where the funds go from 137.5 to 66 million up to 2028, equal to 71.5 million less. In the city of Bologna alone the cut is 6.9 million for the two-year period 2025-2026.
With the beginning of the summer and the end of the rains, many jobs are ready but risk not to leave. A stall that is systemic, because they would take 20 million a year in the provincial territory but just 5 of millions arrive; but also a serious problem for workers, who in the absence of interventions may have to wait for a date not yet established for theStart of construction sites.
The Messina bridge has nothing to do with it
Matteo Salvini, however, replied that the cuts do not depend on his interests, like the bridge over the strait. Thursday 22 May explained that the cuts derive from‘increase in costs For the works on Genoa and which will do everything possible to recover the funds for the rest of the maintenance work.
The Minister of Transport therefore attacked those who “complain”. During the inspection on the Pope’s bridge, before the closure of the election campaign, he commented on the cut of 1.7 billion on road maintenance saying that it is curious that the Genoese left is complained, which sees a part of that money to get to Genoa.
The attack takes part in part, given that the complaint comes from several deputies of the Democratic Party. While Salvini promises to find the necessary funds, on the other hand the provincial presidents and the mayors say they are worried, because the slowdown of maintenance work jeopardizes the safety of the roads for citizens.
