Essilorluxottica enters the medicine sector and does it by signing an agreement for the acquisition of ophthalmic clinics Optegra from Mideuropa. All in the context of the expansion strategy in the field of medical technology of the Franco-Italian group leader in the eyewear, according to what is announced on Friday by the companies. The operation should end by the end of the year but the financial details of the operation have not been disclosed.

What does Optegra deals with

The Optegra group offers treatments and procedures for the correction of the vision supported by artificial intelligence in the pre and post-operative phases. Among these:

  • Safevista surgery of the cataract;
  • therapies for macular degeneration linked to age and glaucoma;
  • replacement of the refractive crystalline;
  • laser surgery.

For some time, Essilorluxottica has embarked on a strategic path of expansion and diversification of its business, aiming to overcome the traditional core linked exclusively to the production of frames and glasses for glasses. The company is gradually expanding its range to high potential segments and adjacent to its reference market, with the aim of establishing itself as a significant actor also in the world of lifestyle and wearable technology.

The Fund usually invests through the acquisition of majority or minority shares, with tickets between 30 and 50 million euros, actively contributing to the development and growth of the companies in which it enters participation.
