The Italian Ministry of Health has issued the recall of a spice due to the found chemical risk linked to its consumption. Going into more detail, from the ministry’s notice dated 27 December 2024, we learn that the spice is a cumin ground which is sold in stores under the brand Al Arabia. Inside the ministry indicates the presence of alkaloids pyrrolizidines beyond the limits permitted by law. To recognize the product, in addition to the brand, consumers can rely on loton the minimum shelf life and on the production plant.
Recalled ground cumin, lots
The ground cumin recalled by the ministry it is sold in packs of 100 grams and, as already mentioned, reports the brand Al Arabia. It is marketed by Laura Food Srlwith consumers able to recognize the recalled product thanks to the lot. The serial, in this case, is E2401479.
As for the Tmcminimum storage period (the expiry date), the date indicated corresponds to January 30, 2028.
The cumin production plant

The risks for consumers
The basis of the Ministry of Health’s decision to recall Al Arabia brand ground cumin is the chemical risk resulting from the presence beyond the limits of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food. These compounds, if taken for prolonged periods or in high quantities, can cause problems for human health, particularly affecting the liver.
