Among the certain things in life there is the Rai canon. This year it costs 90 euros per year and is due to each family who has a TV or device designed to receive television channels.
However, there is the possibility of obtaining apartial exemption from the feeas long as they respect stringent requirements and precise deadlines. By 30 June 2025, a declaration can be submitted to the Revenue Agency not to pay the second half of the year.
This 50% exemption has a “price”: to be able to benefit from it, it is not enough to stop watching traditional TV channels, but any technical possibility of receiving the signal must be eliminated.
Rai 2025 fee exemption: how it works and when to request
The law provides that only under certain conditions It is possible not to pay the Rai fee. Among these, the most common (in addition to the concessions for the elderly over 75 with low income) is the Failure to detention of a TV in the house. So, if no family member has “a device capable of receiving, decoding and visualizing the digital terrestrial or satellite signal”, as defined by Mimit, exemption can be requested by presenting a special self -certification.
By sending the declaration of non -detention by 30 Junethe exemption from payment for the period July-December 2025 is obtained (about 50% of the annual amount).
The application must be submitted using the official form of theRevenue Agency (framework a) and can be transmitted online via the ADP portal or send via PEC/registered letter. Those who take advantage of the half -yearly exemption will then have to renew the request for the following years: for example, in order not to pay the fee in 2026 it will be necessary to send a new declaration by January 31, 2026.
The exemption does not always apply. As clarified by the Revenue Agency, the facility belongs only to those who “do not hold appliances capable of receiving the television signal”, regardless of effective use: a television kept off, disconnected or without antenna is not enough to avoid the tribute.
Streaming, antenna and Raiplay: what changes if you give up the TV signal
For many families, the decision to cancel the fee is linked to change of vision habits: Today many contents are available in streaming via the Internet, from on-demand platforms to the services of the same broadcasters and therefore the TV Tout Court as we know it becomes useless.
According to the official Rai FAQs, computer, tablets, smartphones and in general the devices used only for viewing via the Internet are not considered televisions for subscription purposes. So, those who exclusively have any screen or a PC, perhaps connected to Chromecast, Smart Stick or console to take advantage of Netflix, YouTube or Raiplay himself, do not incur the payment of the fee.
This does not apply to the reception via satellite. Many television programs are also available on satellite platforms (for example via Tivùsat decoder or pay-TV subscriptions), which do not use the terrestrial antenna on the roof.
A satellite decoder is still a TV tuner. Therefore, possessing it involves the obligation to pay the fee exactly like a normal TV.
How much it costs to deactivate the antenna to obtain the exemption of 50%
Obtain the exemption from the fee for non -TV detention therefore requires deactivate or remove the antenna from the house. In many cases, this means definitively disconnecting the terrestrial antenna system that brings the signal to televisions.
If you live in a condominium With centralized antenna, it is sufficient not to connect any TV to the taking of the condominium antenna. In independent homes, however, you can opt for the disassembly of the antenna on the roof or the disconnection of the descent cable, so that no TV signal reaches the inside of the home.
It is therefore necessary to call a antennist. Prices for deactivating or removing the antenna can vary according to the complexity of the intervention and the area, but in general it is an expense in the order of a few tens of euros in labor.
From the sector lists visible on several specialized websites, for example, medium rates around 70/150 € For movement or removal of a TV antenna, to which you can add a call right (the technician exit) of approximately 30/50 €. On average, making the antenna costs around 100 euros, but the figure can vary depending on the situation. It is a one -off expenditure that cushions in just over a year: already in 2025 you save 45 euros, and in the following years the entire 90 euro fee can be avoided. After the first year the savings are there.
