Starting from the month of September several operators in the free market of electricity have begun to offer lower rates not only than the past, but also those of the protected market. This is what a Republic simulation reveals, which has analyzed the prices offered by companies in the sector in recent weeks.
This is the effect of competition brought by the liberalization of the market. The different companies push down the downward to convince customers. To take advantage of it, however, it is necessary to change electricity supplier, an operation that, thanks to the free market, is increasingly easier.
Electricity prices drop
Aretra, the Energy Energy and Environment Adjustment Authority, established a price of 16 cents for the Kilowattora for the quarters of the quarter of July-September for protected customers, with per year fixed costs of 44 euros. Starting from 1 September, however, note Republicit is relatively simple to find operators who offer fixed prices even by 11, 12 or 13 cents of euros.
It is a difference that can even reach 31% less for customers of the free market. An effect of two circumstances that have contributed to the decrease in prices. On the one hand, the consumption of electricity fell across the country, due to a reduction in industrial production and an improvement in energy efficiency.
On the other, in Italy there has been a very rapid increase in the production of energy derived from renewable sources. The wind turned over with an increase of over 50%, while photovoltaics, which remains the most important source after hydroelectric, grew by 17%.
Free market effect
In addition to the reduction of the cost of energy, the drop in rates is also contributing the stability of prices, after turbulent years. Stability has allowed the companies to begin to compete, one of the effects of the free energy market. Mario Rasimelli, Managing Director Utilities by Facile.it explained:
We are witnessing the real reason why the free market was conceived: a system where competition pushes companies to become more efficient and to offer better conditions to conquer consumers. If in the past the convenient offers were rare, today the competition is real and is leading to tangible benefits for those who are attentive and compare the different rates available.
How to change electricity supplier
The result of the liberalization of the energy market is a widespread drop in rates. To take advantage of it, however, Italian consumers must be ready to change operator, an operation that many are not used to.
First of all you have to choose the new offer, comparing it with what you have active. Once chosen, some data must be prepared:
- registry data of the attitude;
- Tax ID code;
- POD code: identification code of users, present on bills or the counter;
- IBAN: If you want to activate automatic payment.
By law, the operator gearbox is completely free. There are no technical interventions on the counter and you do not pay any criminal. The supply is never interrupted and the new supplier deals with all the details.
