As the first written test of the 2026 Maturity exam approaches, which is scheduled to begin at 08:30 on Thursday 18 June, with the first written Italian test, the wait for more than 500 thousand students is growing for the publication of the exam boards and, above all, the names of the external commissioners. The names should be released today. To consult them, the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM) every year, between the end of May and the beginning of June, makes available a special online search engine dedicated to the State Exam, which is currently not yet active: on the page we read that “the functions will be available soon”.
The dissemination of this data traditionally represents one of the most awaited steps on the path towards high school graduation. In addition to satisfying the curiosity of graduates, the service allows them to familiarize themselves with some organizational aspects of the exam before the tests begin. It is therefore not surprising that, in the days following the publication of the lists, the portal is consulted by thousands of students throughout Italy.
What is the 2026 Matura commissions search engine
The commission search engine is an official online service of the Ministry of Education and Merit that allows you to consult the composition of the State Exam commissions. Through this tool it is possible to identify your commission and view the names of the president and assigned commissioners.
The service is updated closer to the exams and represents the main institutional point of reference for consulting this information. Unlike news disseminated via social groups, chats or unofficial platforms, the data published on the MIM portal comes directly from the school administration and is therefore the most reliable source for verifying the names and structure of the commissions.
How the search for commissioners works: the 3 steps
Using the search engine is quite simple, but requires precision in data entry to avoid displaying incorrect results or those belonging to sections other than your own.
First of all, you need to visit the dedicated portal, selecting the course of study, after which you can carry out a search by selecting the region, province and school of interest. Alternatively, those who know their school’s code can use it to more quickly locate the desired commission.
After selecting the institution, the system displays the list of commissions associated with the school and allows you to view the related details. The information available includes the president of the commission, the internal and external commissioners, as well as any pairings between multiple classes.
The aim of the service is to centralize all the information relating to the exam boards in a single portal, making it easily accessible to students and teachers.
Note that in order to be used, the MIM search engine must be officially unlocked and made operational. Considering that the commissions are generally published between the end of May and the beginning of June, a few weeks before the start of the first written test, until then the portal may show notices relating to the updating of data or the activation of search functions.
Who are the external commissioners and why are they of interest to students
One of the most interesting aspects of the search engine concerns the opportunity to know the names of external commissioners. These figures are appointed by the Ministry and come from institutions other than the one attended by the students, with the aim of guaranteeing greater impartiality in carrying out the State Exam.
For the 2026 Maturity, each commission is made up of an external president, three external commissioners and three internal commissioners. The external commissioners are identified by the Ministry, while the internal ones belong to the class council of the students taking the exam.
Consulting the names allows graduates to get to know the teachers who will take part in the evaluation of the written tests and the interview. This is much sought-after information in the weeks preceding the exam, even if it does not provide any indication on the ways in which the tests will be conducted or on the evaluation criteria adopted by the commission.
However, it should be remembered that knowing the names of the commissioners does not allow us to predict the progress of the exam nor the questions that will be asked during the interview. In fact, the commissions follow evaluation criteria established at national level and are required to guarantee uniformity and impartiality throughout the entire examination process.
