Plasmon back Italian: after more than half a century under the control of an American multinational, the historic brand of childhood food was sold by Kraft Heinz to Newprinces Groupthe new name taken by Newlat Food, the group led by Mastroly family.
According to market sources, the value of the operation is around the 120 million euros.
Plasmon bought by Newpartes Group
That a multinational basis in Italy purchases from the USA is already in itself news. That historians return to Italy Plasmon biscuitswith whom generations of children have grown, is news in the news.
The sale, expected for some time, was followed by the Houlihan Lokey business bank, commissioned by Kraft Heinz in recent months to explore the sales options.
In the end, Newprinces prevailed on a series of potential buyers, mostly private equity funds, thanks to an industrial proposal deemed particularly solid and a direct knowledge of the sector.
The operation marks in a sense a return to the origins for Plasmon. In fact, Newprinces knows well the business of childhood food: in 2015 he had already detected from Heinz the plant of Ozzano Taro (Parma), where he continued to produce the brand products under license for years Plasmon, Nipiol and other specialized brands.
The production for Heinz continued until about a year and a half ago, when the American giant chose to relocate the production of milk powder and liquid for childhood abroad.
Newprinces, who in the same site today produces milk for children on behalf of the multinational Abbott, thus strengthens its position in the sector. With the acquisition, the Latina plant will also pass to the hands of the Italian group, one of the technologically advanced plants in Europe for the production of biscuits and homogenized for children.
The story of Plasmon
Founded in 1902 to Milan by the doctor Caesar ScottiPlasmon has quickly established itself after the post -war period as a reference point for childhood nutrition. Having become part of the Heinz group in the mid -sixties, he lived a long season under American control, up to the current passage of hand. Currently Plasmon generates around 200 million euros in turnover, with a gross operating margin (Ebitda) estimated at around 17 million.
Already in 2019 Kraft Heinz had assessed a possible transfer of the company, entrusting an exploratory mandate to JP Morgan. But the operation was also frozen due to the outbreak of the pandemic. Today, with the closed and signed agreement, one era closes and another opens. A return to tradition, if we want.
