Renault signs partnership with Chinese Geeely for Brazil

Renault has announced an important partnership with the Chinese Geely to strengthen itself on the Brazilian market, where the French car manufacturer already has a production plant and a distribution network. This cooperation will contribute to Groupe Renault’s international development strategy in Latin America and allow it, at the same time, to expand its range of zero and low emission vehicles. Previously, Renault and Geely have initiated several global cooperation projects, including a joint investment in Korea and the creation of Horse Powertrain.

Following the announcement of the partnership, Renault shares accelerated on the Paris Stock Exchange, where they showed an increase of 3.52% to 34.70 euros per share.

The terms of the agreement

Groupe Renault and Geely have entered into definitive agreements to extend their strategic cooperation to the production and sale of zero and low emission vehicles from Renault do Brasil, for the Renault and Geely Auto brands in Brazil.

As part of these agreements, Geely formally acquires a 26.4% minority stake in Renault do Brasil, while Groupe Renault remains the majority shareholder and continues to consolidate the company in its own accounts. As a minority shareholder, Geely will have access to the industrial and commercial resources of Renault do Brasil, to accelerate its expansion in the region’s main automotive market. The Geely EX5 electric SUV is already available on the Brazilian market through dedicated dealerships managed by the Renault network.

By producing Geely Auto branded vehicles alongside those of Renault at the Ayrton Senna plant in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná (Brazil), Renault do Brasil will be able to increase production and further strengthen the competitiveness of this cutting-edge industrial complex. At the same time, Renault will use Geely’s new GEA energy architecture to expand its range with zero and low emission vehicles for the Brazilian market.

Commercially, Renault do Brasil will distribute Geely Auto’s range of zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil, opening up new growth opportunities in sales, financing and services.

The international expansion strategy

Thanks to this cooperation, Groupe Renault and Geely strengthen their presence in Brazil and accelerate the development of their respective brands in a key market, which represents more than 40% of vehicle registrations in Latin America in the first half of 2025.

Francois Provost, CEO of Groupe Renault, explained that the partnership “marks a decisive step forward in our international strategy. It defines agile cooperation based on industrial excellence and technological leadership. Once again, combining our strengths will make us more competitive, more innovative and more responsive in a rapidly evolving automotive market.” For Eric Li, President of Geely Holding Group, the collaboration “will create a win-win scenario, as both Renault and Geely will be able to leverage global technological reach to bring the best products to the market”.
