Sardinia, territorial continuity changes: new times and rates

New step forward towards territorial continuity in Sardinia. The regional council approved the definitive scheme of taxation of public service charges, further progress in the process that will lead to the final intervention to guarantee multiple air connections and the containment of the prices of incoming and departing flights for the island.

The provision will now be received by the Sardinian Regional Council for the discussion within the competent Commission, which will have to express the opinion on the text, before signing on the decree expected by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini.

The scheme for territorial continuity in Sardinia

The scheme on territorial continuity in Sardinia was launched in the Conference of Services of 11 August, convened by the President of the Region Alessandra Todde, with the presence of the Transport Councilor Barbara Manca, of the representatives of the National Authority for Civil Aviation (ENAC) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT).

As for Sicily, territorial continuity is a principle recognized to the large Italian islands to compensate for the geographical deficit of connections compared to the rest of Italy.

The State and the Regions therefore ensure with minimal levels of mobility by economically supporting frequent air routes, guaranteed and with calm rates for residents and other specific categories: an intervention necessary to prevent, as has been happening for years, flight prices be subject to the dynamics of the market oriented by airlines.

The news

Underlining how the provision that identifies the sections and rates for Sardinia arrivals today at the end of intense months of tratives with MIT, the president Alessandra Todde announced the main innovations included in the diagram:

We are about to launch a new mobility model on the island, fairer and closer to the needs of citizens

Among the approved measures are:

  • confirmation of reduced rates for residents;
  • the reduction of the cost of tickets for travel residents for Rome and Milan, respectively for 30 euros and 44 euros per section, excluding VAT and airport taxes;
  • Costs calmly also for non -residents who, however, have ties up to the third degree with Sardinian citizens or who assist family members according to Law 104/92. For these passengers, the ticket will cost only 30% more than the rate of those who live in Sardinia;
  • Maximum roof on prices for the whole year even to those who move to the island for professional reasons;
  • the stable increase in places on flights and frequency on all sections between the airports of Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia and the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate;
  • A greater availability of starting times, divided into four daily bands (6: 00–9: 00, 9: 00–13: 00, 13: 00–18: 30, 18: 30–23: 00) to allow passengers the possibility of carrying out the day round trip;
  • Facilitated rates also extended to new categories, such as workers and soldiers with stable headquarters in Sardinia and sporty non -professional agonists.

To enter into force, the scheme must acquire the opinion of the competent Commission of the Sardinian Regional Council and move to Rome for the definitive signature on the decree of the Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini. Then the tender procedures will start to assign services to airlines.

Pending the new calls, the conditions on territorial continuity in Sardinia remain valid in the extension in April 2026, which involve the operational companies on the island:

  • Aeroitalia – exclusively from Cagliari to Rome and Milan and from Olbia for Milan;
  • Volotea – from Olbia to Rome;
  • ITA AIRWAYS – Exclusively from Alghero to Rome and Milan.
