Sparkling wine recalled due to lead content: what is the batch?

The Ministry of Healthin its function of monitoring products that put health at risk, has another product recalled. This is a sparkling wine from the brand Stocker.

The risks associated with consumption are high. It is no coincidence that the note contains the warning I don’t consume and, for supermarkets or points of sale, of non-sale and withdrawal, of return. The recalled sparkling wine in fact presents the risk of presence of lead.

Sparkling wine recall: risk of lead presence

With the note of the 24 July the Ministry of Health (also present on thededicated app) has decided to recall a sparkling wine. It is a product of an individual company of the brand “Stocker”.

The manufacturer and the establishment identification mark is Stocker Sigmarwhile the commercial name of the product is Sparkling Brut Natur 2017. The factory is identified with the acronym //, that is, it is not indicated. Therefore, to better identify the type of product under recall, you can check the accused batch and the manufacturer’s brand: respectively L070818 And Stocker.

The sparkling wine, which has a grey label with white writing, raised the alarm because of the high presence of lead. The recall, scheduled for July 24, 2024 for the product with an expiration date not included, has a warning.

The note reads: “The product must not be consumed and must be returned to the company where it was purchased.”

Other elements to recognize the product are the wording. The photo published by the Ministry of Health shows these characteristics:

  • Grudwein – base wine (combination of different vineyards);
  • bloom 04/2023;
  • 0.75 liters;
  • number 2736 / 6,500;
  • 13% volume;
  • produced in Italy.

Why the Ministry of Health recalled the sparkling wine: what causes lead

L’lead intakeeven in small quantities, can lead to serious health risks. The main risks associated with lead ingestion are gastrointestinal symptoms, but also neurological and central nervous system. There are also risks to the reproductive and cardiovascular systems.

The symptoms are:

  • nausea;
  • vomit;
  • abdominal cramps;
  • abdominal pain;
  • heachache;
  • irritability;
  • tiredness;
  • difficulty concentrating.

If lead poisoning is suspected, it is important to perform a blood test to determine lead levels in the body. Treatment may include removal of the source of exposure and, in more severe cases, chelationa medical procedure that removes lead from the body. If it is ingested orally, such as by drinking contaminated champagne, the risk of ending up in the hospital is high.
