Supersmart Premium deposit with 3.25% rate: new deadline

Poste Italiane has reopened the placement of the Supersmart Premium Deposit, the savings offer reserved for those who bring new liquidity into the Smart Libretto, with a yield of 3.25% per year. The sums can be set aside starting from 500 euros and the product is issued by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti with the guarantee of the Italian State. The new window to provide new liquidity remains open until 10 September 2026, unless closed early.

How the Supersmart Premium Deposit works

The Supersmart Premium Deposit is a provision that is activated on the Smart Passbook and recognizes a higher rate than the base rate of the passbook. It is reserved for adult customers who hold a Libretto Smart in a single name or in a joint name with separate signature, i.e. with the right for each holder to operate separately.

Joint passbooks with joint signature, those registered to minors and those to legal entities are excluded. The holders of the Deposit must be the same as those of the Passbook on which it is activated, up to a maximum of four.

The mechanism distinguishes two types of sums:

  • the sums set asidei.e. the part tied to the Deposit, remunerated at 3.25%;
  • the free sumsi.e. the unset aside inventories, to which the current base rate of the Smart Booklet is applied.

How the new liquidity is paid

New liquidity means the sums paid starting from 23 July 2026 and by 10 September 2026, net of any withdrawals. The contributions can be made directly to the Libretto Smart or to BancoPosta current accounts and other postal savings books in the customer’s name, exclusively via:

  • bank transfers;
  • payments of bank checks and bank drafts;
  • salary and pension credit.

The liquidity paid into another Libretto or a BancoPosta account must then be transferred to the Smart Libretto with a deposit in order to activate the Deposit.

Yield, amounts and duration

The rate of 3.25% gross per annum accrues at the expiry of 366 days.

The provisions start from 500 euros and increase by multiples of 50 euros.

The Deposit can be deactivated at any time, even partially.

Partial deactivation is permitted for minimum amounts of 50 euros, with the obligation to leave a residue of no less than 500 euros. However, the 3.25% does not apply to sums deactivated in advance. In fact, they return to the base rate in force at that time. The released sums remain immediately available.

How much do 1,000, 2,000 and 15,000 euros yield

According to the official Post Office simulator, the net value at maturity is this, net of withholding tax:

  • 1,000 euros – approximately 24 euros of net interest, for a net value at maturity of 1,024.12 euros;
  • 2,000 euros – approximately 48 euros net, for a net value at maturity of 2,048.24 euros;
  • 15,000 euros – approximately 362 euros net, for a net value at maturity of 15,361.74 euros.

The figures are valid by maintaining the provision until the expiry of 366 days. Whoever deactivates first loses 3.25% and the sums fall back to the base rate of the Libretto. These amounts are also affected by the stamp duty of 0.2% per year, charged on 31 December in proportion to the period in force. For the exact amount on your capital it is best to use the simulator on the product page.

Withholding tax and stamp duty

The interest on the sums set aside is credited upon maturity net of the withholding tax equal to 26%, as indicated in the Information Sheet of the Smart Booklet. Unlike postal savings bonds, taxed at 12.5% like government bonds, the ordinary rate applies to the Supersmart Deposit.

Added to this is the proportional stamp duty, currently equal to 0.2% per annum, applied on 31 December in proportion to the period of validity of the provision. If there are no active provisions, the minimum tax is 1 euro.

How it is activated and until when

Those who already have the Smart Booklet can activate the Deposit online, from the poste.it website, from the Poste Italiane app or in a post office. Those who don’t have one can open one before joining. Activation, management and deactivation do not involve expenses or commissions, except for tax charges.

The opt-in window closes on 10 September 2026, unless terminated earlier by the issuer.
