We reduce paper waste, the new sustainable dispensers that protect the environment

How much paper is wasted every day in offices, hotels, restaurants and healthcare facilities? The answer, almost always, is “much more than you think”. The automatic gesture of tearing off more paper than necessary – at the sink or in the bathroom – is one of those behaviors that is so ingrained that it seems harmless. Yet, multiplied by tens or hundreds of people per day, in thousands of facilities, its impact on the environment and on operating costs is far from negligible.

According to industry estimates, in high-traffic professional contexts a significant share of roll paper and towels is consumed in excess of actual hygiene needs. The result is double damage: on the one hand, an avoidable environmental impact – the more raw material used, the more waste produced; on the other, an operating cost that weighs on the budget of those who manage the structure, be they hotels, restaurants, companies or healthcare facilities.

The good news is that this waste is not inevitable. There are technological and efficient solutions capable of significantly reducing it without asking anything from the end user, simply by rethinking the way in which the products are delivered.

The Lucart Professional vision

Lucart is one of the main European players in the away-from-home sector, i.e. that set of paper products – towels, toilet paper, napkins, industrial cloths – intended not for domestic use but for professional and community contexts. A distinction that may seem technical, but which in reality implies a very concrete responsibility: professional products are used by an enormously higher number of people than domestic ones, and their waste, therefore, multiplies accordingly.

For Lucart Professional, innovation translates into the development of intelligent solutions that eliminate inefficiencies along the entire supply chain: from the technical selection of raw materials to integrated logistics, up to the advanced design of dispensing systems. This rigor is also applied to the Identity project, the brand’s flagship technological ecosystem which maximizes the effectiveness of use and drastically reduces waste through millimetric control of consumption, guaranteeing superior performance with the minimum use of resources.

The Identity project, when design meets efficiency

“Style born for efficiency”: it is with this claim that Lucart Professional presents Identity, its line of professional dispensers for toilet paper, towels, soaps and air fresheners. Identity was born exactly from the idea that aesthetics and functionality should not be in contradiction, but can – indeed, must – coexist.

From a design point of view, Identity stands out for an elegant and unmistakable visual language: clean lines, plays of transparencies, the chromatic choice of black and white that adapt to any environment, from the luxury hotel to the contemporary office, from the healthcare facility to the gastronomic restaurant. Dispensers are therefore furnishing elements that elevate the qualitative perception of a space.

But Identity is above all a system. A complete and integrated range of products – paper, soap and air freshener dispensers – designed to work together, with simple and intuitive mechanics, designed to reduce maintenance and refueling operations to a minimum. And, above all, to reduce consumption.

Technology at the service of waste reduction

There are three systems that really make the difference.

Autocut systems

Identity’s Autocut dispensers – for both towels and toilet paper – are equipped with an internal automatic cutting mechanism that works without batteries or electricity. Each time the user withdraws paper, the dispenser delivers a single tear, of a pre-established length. It is not possible to “pull more”: the cutting takes place automatically, and the next sheet is already ready for the next use. The result, measured in market research conducted by Research Factory on a representative sample, is a reduction in consumption of up to 45% compared to traditional Jumbo roll or folded towel dispensers.

L1

The Identity range is enriched with two new single-sheet toilet paper dispensers, designed to maximize the performance of Lucart Professional central extraction refills, both in Fiberpack® and pure cellulose. These new models confirm the coherent design of the line, which combines aesthetics with functional technology that aims to reduce waste.

The new single sheet dispenser is solid and easy to refill, with a system that avoids unnecessary consumption thanks to controlled and precise dispensing. For high-traffic environments, the technological answer is the new L1 Double. This device hosts two rolls ready for use at the same time: a configuration that doubles the autonomy of the system and ensures continuity of service even during peaks of use.

Stub-Roll

The Identity Autocut Toilet Dispenser 2.0 introduces a further innovation: the Stub-Roll system, which allows you to use the roll running out until the last tear before moving on to the new one. A detail that makes the difference: in high-traffic facilities, the practice of replacing the roll as soon as it nears the end – to prevent it from remaining empty – leads to systematically wasting the last meters of paper. With the Stub-Roll system, the estimated saving is 18 meters of paper for each roll replaced. Multiplied by the hundreds of changes made each year in a medium-sized facility, the overall savings become considerable.

No Touch Systems

Identity dispensers with No Touch technology complete the picture. Thanks to an electronic sensor sensitive to movement, they automatically dispense paper or soap as soon as the hand approaches, without the user having to touch the dispenser. In addition to the obvious hygienic advantage – recommended by the WHO for correct hand hygiene – the system guarantees controlled dispensing: only one dose for each gesture, without the possibility of excesses.

Material sustainability beyond technology

Identity’s sustainable philosophy doesn’t stop at delivery technologies. Lucart Professional has also worked on the material component of its products, introducing innovative solutions that concern the materials themselves and their end of life.

The Patented Plastic-Free Core is one of the most significant elements: the internal core of the rolls is plastic-free, a choice which, added to the enormous number of rolls produced and distributed every year, has a concrete and measurable environmental impact. This is accompanied by a Sustainable Packaging program which aims to progressively reduce the use of non-recyclable packaging materials.

The advantages for the manager

Reducing paper waste is also a financially advantageous decision for those who manage a professional structure.

A 45% reduction in paper consumption translates directly into a proportional reduction in procurement costs. Less paper purchased means less expenses, more operating margin. The estimated savings with the Stub-Roll system – 18 meters of paper for each roll – may seem modest on the scale of a single bathroom, but in a facility with dozens of bathrooms and hundreds of replacements per year it quickly becomes a significant savings item.

Added to this is the optimization of staff: dispensers designed to minimize the frequency of refills and simplify refilling operations free up precious time for cleaning and maintenance personnel. And the image value should not be overlooked because in a market that is increasingly sensitive to environmental issues, the choice of sustainable and certified solutions communicates to one’s guests, customers or employees a positioning of quality and responsibility – an intangible asset, but far from irrelevant.
