Graduating Costa, and expenses are increasingly outside the reach of many families. Not surprisingly, and it is not good news, in Italy the loans for the study are knowing impressive growth. In the academic year only 2024-2025, over 370 million euros were paid in funding for training, with a 15% increase in requests compared to the previous year.
Yet so far just one in 100 student has financed his studies with loans in Honorem, against over 50% in northern Europe (and even 90% in the United Kingdom). To fill this gap, the government and several banking institutions have put in place new solutions and concessions, aimed at students of the academic year 2025/2026. Unless you decide to be university in Greece, where it is free, there are solutions to lighten the shopping and to delay it. Let’s see what they are.
Fund for study 2025: how it works and who can request it
The main tool at a public level is the fund for the study (managed by Consap on behalf of the MEF), recently relaunched and enhanced to support up to 220,000 worthy students.
Thanks to an interministerial decree during the implementation, the maximum financeable amount doubles from € 25,000 to 50,000 euros (and rises to € 70,000 for those who study abroad), while the annual roof for each student goes from 5,000 to 15,000 euros.
The fund does not require asset guarantees nor is family income linked, but is reserved for worthy students: you only have to have obtained at least 75/100 to the graduation exam (or 100/110 to the three -year degree).
How university loans work
Loans cover a wide range of training courses (graduation, Master, Its Academy, Higher Artistic and Musical Training, Courses abroad, etc.) and the return begins only after the end of the studies. There is also a pre -amortization period of 30 months after graduation. The student does not yet pay the installments and can focus on the start of the career, and then start the refund that can last from 10 to 15 years with lighter rates than a traditional loan.
Usually the loan arrives in annual tranches, so every year the student has the necessary liquidity. During the university course, only small shares of interest on capital actually used are paid. In some cases, thanks to the conventions with the banks, the installment during the studies do not pay at all, and at the end the applied rates can be even more favorable.
Banking loans: the main offers
Many Italian banks offer loans for university students (the so -called Loans of honor) with advantageous conditions and without requests for personal guarantees. Among the most interesting:
- Intesa Sanpaolo – “by merit”, up to € 75,000, no installment during the studies, flexible reimbursement from 2 to 30 years;
- BNL – “Futuriamo”, up to € 70,000, with a pre -amortization of up to 36 months;
- Banca Sella, up to € 50,000 (€ 75,000 with affiliated universities), with two years of pre -amortization;
- Unicredit – “AD Honorem”, up to € 27,700, refund from 1 to 15 years, online request.
Applied rates are normally lower than standard personal loans (often around 3-5%) and the possibility of postponing the start of the reimbursement of one or two years after graduation makes these solutions more sustainable.
How to request a loan for the study
For loans with state guarantee, the student must register online on the Consap platform via Spid and obtain a certificate to be presented to the affiliated bank. For bank loans, however, you can request directly from the bank or through conventions with universities, often entirely online.
