Problems with the use of the Meta group’s social platforms – Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook – for thousands of Italian users today, Thursday 9 April: according to what was reported on the Downdetector portal, which collects feedback from users, the first disruptions began with Whatsapp starting from 10:00, with a peak of 3,459 reports of malfunctions at 10:16. More specifically, 39% of users reported difficulties sending messages, 24% with the app in general and 20% with logging in. The outage was resolved by Meta shortly before 11am, with reports dropping rapidly for all three applications.
The downside also affected Instagram, with a peak of 1948 reports at 10.12am, and Facebook, with 1199 users reporting problems at 10.15am. In both cases, people had difficulty accessing the app and connecting to the server.
The major reports, however, came mainly from the cities of Central and Southern Italy such as Rome, Perugia, Naples, Bari, Palermo and Catania, although several reports were also recorded in Milan and Turin, as also visible in the map below.

Although the problem has been resolved, Meta, the company owned by Mark Zuckerberg, has not yet released any explanation. The temporary downturn, however, seems to have been recorded only in Italy.
