Bandecchi writes to Salvini, 64 million euros are needed for urgent interventions

The president of the province of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi, sent a letter to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini. The letter requested funds for structural and redevelopment interventions in the provincial territory. The tone of the letter is that of urgency, with at its center a series of priority projects for security reasons. The objective of the meeting is therefore to obtain 64 million euros for works involving schools, roads and monumental assets.

The letter does not arrive with Bandecchi’s request alone, but is accompanied by a detailed document listing all the main interventions to be financed. The list includes strategic infrastructures and educational institutions in Terni, Orvieto and Acquasparta that require seismic adaptation works, urban redevelopment and tourism enhancement.

What Bandecchi asked Salvini: interventions for schools and roads

Stefano Bandecchi sent a letter and a document to the Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini. In addition to the letter, which requests a meeting to discuss national investments in the provincial territory, there is also a list of areas of intervention.

The main projects include the functional redevelopment of Villalago and the park for tourist-accommodation purposes, the external variant of Allerona and the completion of the Acquasparta variant.

Of particular importance is the chapter dedicated to schools, with interventions for:

  • the “Galilei” scientific high school in Terni (seismic improvement);
  • the artistic and classical IIS “Metelli” of Terni (seismic adaptation);
  • the artistic and classical IIS of Orvieto (fire prevention adaptation);
  • the “Angeloni” high school for linguistics, music and human sciences in Terni (seismic adaptation).

Also included within the school structures are the redevelopment or completion of sports facilities, such as those of the Ciconia complex in Orvieto, the functionalisation of the former educational foundry of the Technical-Technological Institute of Terni, the redevelopment of the school complex in Viale Trieste and the restoration and valorisation of the Rocca Albornoz in Piediluco.

Other requests concern road projects, such as the road connection between the former state road 79 Terni-Marmore-Piediluco and the Terni-Rieti road.

How much do the interventions cost?

All these works have a cost and the province of Terni, as Bandecchi explains in the letter, does not have the resources necessary to complete works of this magnitude. Hence the request to the Ministry of Infrastructure, so that it can intervene with extraordinary national funding for a value of over 64 million euros.

The request appears legitimate, the letter continues, when the educational, road and cultural value of the projects themselves is taken into consideration. In the letter addressed to Salvini, the president of the province of Terni wrote that:

The works require national funding to be completed.

The meeting, Bandecchi underlines, would be necessary to define the priorities and possible financing channels. In fact, specific funds or other types of projects co-financed with the government must also be evaluated.

Sending the letter also has a political value. In fact, Bandecchi has for some time been asking the central executive to pay greater attention to the provinces, territories often distant from the affairs that take place in Rome. Yet it is precisely in these territories that plans must be developed for the seismic safety of schools or the valorisation of monumental heritage.

With an investment of around 64 million euros, the province of Terni could have a significant economic return. We are talking about jobs linked to the projects, but also about direct impacts on tourism.
