The new edition of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027the ranking created by Newsweek in collaboration with Statesman. The analysis looks at approximately 2,500 hospitals spread across 13 areas of medicine. There are a total of 42 Italian hospitals present in the international rankings. And the four mentioned are among the top ten in the world.
The best hospitals in the world
The highest Italian result is that of the Gemelli Polyclinic, which ranks 3rd in the world ranking out of 125 facilities in the list dedicated to obstetrics and gynaecology.
Bambino Gesù instead reaches 4th place out of 250 hospitals in paediatrics.
Finally, the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute of Milan is 8th out of 150 in neurology.
The Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute of Bologna is 9th for orthopedics.
The ranking considers expert recommendations along with quality indicators and measures related to patient-centered care. The criteria may therefore vary depending on the individual specialty. The result should also be read as a series of specialist rankings and not as a general ranking of hospitals.

The 2027 edition of the ranking of the best hospitals in the world takes into consideration 13 disciplines:

Lombardy is full with 15 facilities, followed by Lazio with 7. Piedmont is present with 5 hospitals, while Campania, Tuscany and Veneto have 3 each.
The Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome
In addition to 3rd place in obstetrics and gynecology, Gemelli is 11th in gastroenterology, 27th in cardiology, 29th in oncology, 29th in endocrinology, 32nd in pneumology, 38th in neurology, 47th in nephrology, 70th in orthopaedics, 75th in neurosurgery and 86th in urology.
The Child Jesus of Rome and the others
For paediatrics, it was said, the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome achieved 4th place in the world out of 250 facilities. Other Italian facilities also appear in the same ranking: the Giannina Gaslini Institute is 26th, the San Salvatore hospital in Pesaro is 46th, the Vittore Buzzi in Milan is 61st and the Meyer in Florence is 62nd.
Oncology, Ieo in 14th place
Italy has a presence in oncology with 15 hospitals in the ranking: the highest result is that of the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, in 14th place in the world; followed by the Gemelli Polyclinic at 29th, the National Cancer Institute of Milan at 33rd, Humanitas at 45th, the National Cancer Institute of Naples – G. Pascale Foundation at 75th, Niguarda at 76th, San Raffaele at 85th and the Veneto Oncology Institute at 95th.
Cardiology, Monzino first among Italians
In cardiology, the Monzino Cardiology Center in Milan is the Italian structure with the highest ranking, 17th in the world. The San Raffaele of Milan is 22nd, the Gemelli 27th, the Policlinico San Donato 51st, Niguarda 68th and the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi of Bologna 70th.
There are 9 Italian facilities present in the cardiac surgery ranking. Monzino is 28th, San Raffaele 33rd, Sant’Orsola 52nd and Niguarda 62nd.
Neurology, Besta is eighth in the world
The Carlo Besta in Milan is one of the most significant Italian results in the entire ranking. The institute is 8th in the world in neurology and 11th in neurosurgery. In neurology, Gemelli also appears at 38th, Niguarda at 39th and San Raffaele at 40th. In neurosurgery Niguarda is 48th and Gemelli 75th.
Orthopaedics, Rizzoli in the Top 10

Gastroenterology, Gemini eleventh
Gemini achieves one of its best results in gastroenterology, with 11th place in the world. Among the Italian structures present there are also Humanitas of Rozzano, 47th, the Hospital-University of Padua, 54th, Sant’Orsola, 69th, and Niguarda, 76th.
