A record-breaking Black Friday is expected for Italians’ household appliance carts. On the occasion of the next Black Friday (November 28) and Cyber Monday (December 1), families in the Bel Paese will draw up a shopping list of around 233 euros per person on average, for a total expense that will approach 3 billion euros. This is what emerges from a survey commissioned by Facile.it to mUp Research.
Data in Italy
Around 13 million Italians already have clear ideas and declare that they want to take advantage of the offers to purchase one or more household appliances. Added to these is a large segment of “undecided” consumers: another 20 million say they will decide at the last minute, based on the discounts actually available.
Unfortunately, these numbers are also tempting for cybercriminals. In periods of intense shopping like this, scam attempts multiply. Recent research highlights that, in the last year alone, as many as 2.8 million Italians were victims of fraud or an attempted scam during online shopping.
The budgets of Italians
The average expense of 233 euros actually hides very diversified budgets. 51% of those interviewed have set aside up to 1,000 euros, while around 80,000 Italians will spend a maximum of 10,000 euros. However, it is not a trend for everyone: the survey reveals that there are still 400,000 compatriots who declare that they do not know what Black Friday and Cyber Monday are.
But what are the reasons that push millions of Italians to renew their home equipment? Mainly, the need to replace an obsolete object:
- in 65% of cases, the appliance to be replaced is considered “too old”;
- for 21%, the push comes from the desire to switch to a more efficient and less “energy-intensive” model.
Almost 1.9 million Italians instead want to expand their home equipment, while for 2.6 million the reason is more pragmatic: the current appliance is broken. “Changing an old appliance with a new and more efficient one is an excellent choice for reducing bills – explain the experts at Facile.it – Our recent analysis has highlighted that it is possible to reduce electricity costs by up to 68%”.
The ranking of the most desired household appliances
What are the most popular products for this edition of Black Friday? Leading the top ten is the air fryer, desired by 16.8% of respondents (around 6 million people). Completing the podium, at a minimum distance, were the television (15.8%) and the coffee machine (15.7%). Here is the complete top ten:
- air fryer (16.8%);
- television (15.8%);
- coffee machine (15.7%);
- robot vacuum cleaner (13.5%);
- vacuum cleaners (13.3%);
- food processor (10.4%);
- microwave oven (8.9%);

10 tips for buying online safely
As shopping increases, risks grow. To defend itself from scams, Facile.it has created a handbook on how to defend yourself:
- buy only on well-known portals and check the reviews;
- be careful of clones, as some sites imitate the official ones, and always check the URL in the address bar;
- the address must start with “https://”;, not just “http://”;;
conclude the purchase outside the official website (e.g. via email) without protections; - ignore suspicious emails or SMS with incredible offers and do not click on the links and verify the sender;
- if the price is so discounted that it seems impossible, it could be a scam;
- read the conditions and make sure that the site clearly states terms, conditions and right of withdrawal;
- always use credit cards or tracked methods and avoid prepaid top-ups at the seller’s request;
- check the discount carefully, as some online stores may inflate prices before Black Friday;
- Don’t rush, as scammers use the offer leverage for a short time.
