The new system revolutionizes access to the medical, dentistry and veterinary faculties: away the closed number and the cross quiz, yes to the open admission with selection only at the end of the first half.

A radical change that will come into force from the academic year 2025/2026 for state universities (for private ones, the entrance tests will continue to exist). Now the ball passes to the Ministry of the University and Research, which within 12 months will have to issue the legislative decrees to make the reform operational. But Minister Anna Maria Bernini promises faster times.

No more entry test to Medicine

The minister of the Anna Maria Bernini University assured that, in a short time, the implementation decrees To make the reform of the entrance test to medicine, dentistry and veterinarian operational. The cornerstones of the new law are:

  • the abolition of the closed number;
  • The removal of the cross -entry quiz.

This means that any student, in possession of a Second grade secondary school titlewill be able to enroll in the first year of these faculties, which in the past have almost always requested the passage of a selection. This does not mean, however, that there will be no more access filter to medicine.

Goodbye to the closed number, the programmed remains

Even if the closed number no longer exists, the programmed number. The selection moves simply from the moment before the first year. In fact, students will have to demonstrate that they can continue their path of study in medicine, dentistry or veterinarian to the current academic year.

However, this reform concerns only the university public. The private ones will be able to continue to request an admission test, as already happens for other faculties. In fact, many universities are already preparing the entrance tests to medicine, dentistry and veterinary for the next academic year.

How the selection of students changes

The entrance test for medical faculties is in fact moved by six months. At the end of the first half Of the first year, all registered students will have to undergo some exams. What these tests will be defined by the implementing decrees. Only those who pass the tests can be admitted to the second part of the academic year and the rest of the degree course.

The others though they will not lose the year. In fact, they will be able to continue studying, attending a course of your choice among those of the scientific area. In this way, the examined exams will be able to apply to another degree course, without lengthening the times of the student’s academic career.

Some practical aspects remain to be defined, pending the implementing decrees:

  • The subjects that will be part of the semester filter: we speak of biology, chemistry and physics, but anatomy courses are not excluded;
  • The mode of profit exams: probable that it is resorted to traditional written or oral tests, with certified evaluation mechanisms.
