Free visits and health expenses from 2025, what are the updated rates

Starting from December 30th the Tariff decree which updates the prices of healthcare costs. Starting from January 2025 some visits and services will therefore be free or they will only require the payment of ticket. There are approximately 3,000 services with updated rates, from the inclusion of over 100 rare diseases in the official list, up to the recognition of endometriosis as a disabling disease. Also be careful about eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia.

Tariff Decree: new resources arrive

On November 26th, the new Tariff Decree was published in the Official Journal. Starting from 30 December, some nomenclatures for specialist outpatient services and prosthetic assistance will be updated, after 28 years, after 25 years.

Lots of news on rateswith over 3,000 updates, specifically 3,171, or 35% of the total. The Meloni government has made it available 550 million euros to eliminate or almost eliminate the cost of some visits and healthcare services.

The entry into force of Tariff decree it will allow the full provision of the new LEAs throughout the national territory and citizens will be able to benefit from innovations in the medical field in every Region. These include services for diagnosis or monitoring of celiac disease and rare diseases, diagnostic insights, neonatal screening and much more.

The updating of the nomenclature also allows the adoption of a new price listas it expands the right to health to previously excluded health services. This is an enormous benefit for Italian families, who increasingly postpone medical visits or turn to private facilities. From January 2025, however, it will be possible to access many other services free or almost free, paying a maximum of one ticket.

How many and which health services and expenses will be free?

The update of Tariff decree it involves 3,171 services, but only 1,113 tariffs have been modified to be zero or almost zero. New rates are scheduled for:

  • medically assisted procreation
  • advanced genetic counseling
  • hadrontherapy and stereotactic radiotherapy
  • enteroscopy with ingestible microcamera, for in-depth diagnoses of intestinal pathologies
  • innovative biological therapies

Also available devices technologically advanced, including:

  • digital hearing aids
  • latest generation artificial limbs
  • home automation systems and mobility aids
  • voice recognition and gaze pointing tools

And new measures for monitoring of specific pathologies such as:

  • inclusion of over 100 new rare diseases in the official list
  • diagnosis and monitoring of celiac disease
  • expanded newborn screening
  • recognition of endometriosis as a disabling disease
  • specific checks for eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia

The new tariff updates 35% of the entire healthcare nomenclature, for a value of 549.9 million euros. Of this figure, approximately 502 million will go to outpatient specialist services and 47 million for prosthetic assistance.

We talked about the elimination of costs or almost, but for the Italian healthcare system this means that the visits will not be completely free, but that their cost will be reduced only to the payment of the ticket. This is an enormous benefit for families and millions of Italians because it reduces the burden of expenses and allows access to prevention and treatment services.
