The Ministry of Health, in its monitoring of products on sale in Italian supermarkets, has issued a new reminder note. In fact, on its website, the ministry led by Orazio Schillaci warned consumers about the possible risks associated with a batch of Grated Grana Padano Dop on sale in supermarkets, because it could contain foreign bodies. For this reason the Ministry has recalled the product, with all the necessary warnings.
Grated Grana cheese recalled
The protagonist of the recall note published on the Ministry of Health website is the grated Grana Padano Dop produced by the “Latteria Social Mantova Soc. Agr. Coop.”, with factory in Marmirolo, in the province of Mantua. The product brand is “Consilia“.
Grated cheese is the one in 100 gram pack which can be found in Italian supermarkets in a bag. To recognize it, just pay attention to the details of the packaging:
- there envelope is green with lighter diagonal lines;
- is present “Grana Padano” logo which certifies the authorization of the consortium;
- it says on the front “Consilia – grated Grana Padano Dop“;
- is the pack of 100 grams;
- another logo present is the one that certifies theabsence of lactose with “Naturally lactose free”;
- all the production and expiry information is shown on the back, with the affected batch which must be “preferably consumed by 11/12/24“.
As stated in the Ministry’s recall note, the affected production batch is 24256Y.
The risks for grated cheese
The note, as happens in these cases, provides all the relevant explanations and why the product was recalled. Specifically, in fact, recall is required for “possible presence of metallic foreign bodies“.
The request is to “do not consume the product and return it to the point of sale where it was purchased” to avoid any type of problem.
In production, it should be underlined, it often happens that foreign bodies end up inside the packaged product. From subsequent checks, after being placed on the market, the anomaly emerges which, as it cannot be restricted to a single package, requires the total recall of the production batch.
Ministry monitoring
As we have often told you, food safety is an aspect that is put first by the Ministry of Health which monitors as best it can the quality of products sold in supermarkets and reports withdrawals or recalls via its website.
Specifically, this mechanism is possible thanks to food sector operators (OSAs) who have the obligation to inform their customers of the non-conformity found in the foods they place on the market and to withdraw a product from the market if it is not in line. from a qualitative point of view.
In addition to the withdrawal or recall (as in this case), if the product has already been sold to the consumer, the Osa must inform consumers about the products at risk, also through signage to be displayed in points of sale, and publish the recall in the specific area of the Ministry of Health portal.
Often, however, it happens that the company itself anticipates the Ministry, publishing the recall note on its website (in the appropriate section) even before the ministry makes known any anomalies on the product concerned.
