the analysis of CNCC and EY
“In the month of June, turnover and attendanceand have recorded positive trends, which have influenced the performance of the entire semester. We can only be happy with these results, which confirm that the shopping centre formula is valid and has shown the right resilience after a complex period. Clothing in particular, a particularly relevant category in the merchandising mix, after a decline in the spring months, due to unfavourable weather conditions, recovered in June and is now recording performances substantially in line with 2023 and 2019. Catering, on the other hand, remains positive despite the push due to inflation having largely stopped”, comments Roberto ZoiaPresident of the CNCC.
For Marco Daviddi, Managing Partner Strategy and Transactions of EY Italy: “The data from the CNCC-EY Observatory show a first half of 2024 that was substantially stable compared to the same period of the previous year, with a month of June that saw signs of recovery compared to the same period of 2023. The rise of the Personal Care and Health sector is particularly notable, which recorded an increase of 8.1% in the half-year. This trend underlines the importance of having adequate and high-level skills in the management of Shopping Centers, in order to manage their offer to meet the increasingly diversified needs of consumers and to promote the Shopping Centers themselves not only as places of purchase”.
Attendance, growing trend
Finally, as regards the turnouts, in June the trend is up by 2.6% compared to June 2023, and brings the trend figure for the first half of the year to +1.2%. It should also be noted that the longer-term trend also records a positive figure with a +2.4% in the last 12 months (July 2023-June 2024) compared to the previous 12 months (July 2022-June 2023).
