November postal savings bonds, 7 solutions for investing: what is best

Uncertain interest rates and inflation that shows no signs of slowing down are pushing more and more people to look for safe solutions in which to invest their money. Among these are postal savings bonds and savings books which, as explained by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella at the event marking 150 years of postal savings, are subscribed to by 27 million Italians.

The reason for their success, now more than a hundred years old, is certainly the guarantee from the State. Furthermore, they are issued by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and placed on the market by Poste Italiane. Let’s see what the best 7 solutions are for investing in long- and short-term postal vouchers in November 2025.

Short investment solutions

Postal savings bonds have a long or short investment duration so they are perfectly suited to everyone’s needs. So what are the best short-term titles?

The Premium postal savings certificate is the one that offers a higher return if you want to invest for a short time. But let’s see what the main features of this title are and how much it makes. Well, as can be seen from the name, it lasts 4 years and at the end of this period you obtain a gross annual return of 2.50%.

This security can, however, only be subscribed to by those who own a Smart, ordinary savings account or BancoPosta account and bring new liquidity to the latter by 29 December 2025, unless the offer is closed early.

New liquidity can be provided through bank transfers, bank or bank checks or by crediting your salary or pension. If it is paid into other passbooks or into the BancoPosta current account, it can then be transferred to the Smart passbook to purchase the security using a fund.

Here is an example of performance:

let’s suppose we invest 4,000 euros in this type of voucher on 2 November 2025. At the end of the four years or 2 November 2029, as can be seen from the calculator made available by Poste, you will obtain a net return of 4,363.34 euros but the calculation excludes the stamp duty which will be paid according to current legislation.

Then there is the 4-year Renewal which also lasts four years and offers a gross annual rate of 1.50%. However, if the refund is requested earlier, you are only entitled to recognition of the amount invested net of any tax charges.

Unlike other securities, the Renew 4-year postal savings bond cannot be subscribed to by everyone but only by those who:

  • starting from 15 September 2024 you have requested the reimbursement of one or more BFP;
  • starting from 1 October 2024 one or more Supersmart offers have expired.

Here is an example of performance:

let’s suppose we invest 4,000 euros in the 4-year Renewal voucher on 2 November 2025. At the end of the four years or 2 November 2029, as can be seen from the calculator made available by Poste, you will obtain a net return of 4,214.77 euros. However, stamp duty is excluded from the calculation. This title will then expire on 3 November 2039.

The other security that does not last long is the 4-year Plus voucher which, like the other two, lasts four years and does not offer interest before this period. Unlike the others, however, it can be subscribed to by anyone but offers a lower interest rate of 1.25% gross per annum.

Here is an example of performance:

let’s suppose we still want to invest 4,000 euros but in this other security and on the same date, i.e. 2 November 2025. From the calculator made available by Poste, it can be seen that after four years, i.e. on 2 November 2029, you will receive 4,178.31 euros while on 3 November 2039 the security will expire. However, the stamp duty is excluded from the calculation and must be calculated according to current legislation.

What are the solutions for long investments?

If you want to invest your money for a long time, there are two solutions. You can choose 3×4 postal savings bonds and ordinary ones. Let’s start from the characteristics of the first. Their duration is twelve years and the returns are as follows:

  • 1% after the 3rd year;
  • 1.50% after the 6th year;
  • 2.25% after the 9th year;
  • 3% after the 12th year.

You can then request a refund whenever you want but only after the third year will you also obtain a refund of the accrued interest. Before this period you only receive the invested capital.

Here is an example of performance:

let’s imagine setting aside 4,000 euros in the 3×4 voucher on 2 November 2025. From the calculator made available by Poste Italiane it can be seen that on 2 November 2037 you will receive 5,490.16 euros. However, stamp duty is not included in the calculation.

Ordinary bonds, on the other hand, last 20 years and at the end of this period offer a gross annual interest rate which starts from 0.75% after 1 year and reaches 2.50% at the end of the twentieth year. You can also request early repayment of this voucher but interest is only received at the end of the first twelve months.

Here is an example of performance:

if you invest your money, exactly 4,000 euros, in the ordinary voucher, after 20 years and exactly on 2 November 2045 you will receive 6,235.17 euros which corresponds to the sum of the amount entered and the expected interest net of the withholding tax. However, the stamp duty which is calculated based on current legislation is not considered.
