How the price of electricity is calculated

The price of electricity in Italy is determined by several factors, including the cost of the raw material, transmission and distribution costs, taxes and marketing costs. Arera, the adjustment authority for energy networks and environment, establishes prices for the protected market, while on the free market suppliers can apply different rates according to their commercial offers.

What is the Pun

The single national price (Pun) is the average price of electricity exchanged in the Italian wholesale market. It is calculated on the basis of the transactions carried out on the electrical market and represents a fundamental indicator for the formation of retail prices. Pun varies according to the demand and supply of energy, influenced by factors such as the availability of renewable sources and national energy consumption.

The price of electricity in the free market

In the free market, consumers have the opportunity to choose between different offers of electricity suppliers. Prices may vary significantly based on the market conditions and the commercial policies of suppliers. Users can compare rates and choose the most advantageous offer for their needs, also taking into account any promotions and discounts.

In the protected market, the price of electricity is divided into time slots, which reflect the different costs of production and distribution of energy.
