ReMed is the project that allows the recovery and recycling of pre-filled injectable medical devices for self-administration, with the aim of transforming them into new resources and reducing the environmental impact, making them the basis for commonly used objects, such as chairs and furnishing accessories. The path becomes a completely innovative collection and recycling model, to transform a used medical device from waste to a resource. The initiative fits into Novo Nordisk’s global strategy.”Circular for Zero”, which aims to reduce environmental impact to zero by 2045 through reducing consumption, recycling waste and redesigning products along the supply chain “from production to patient”.
The project, after the pilot launch in 2024 in Emilia Romagna (Bologna, Parma), Piedmont (Turin, Novara) and Lombardy (Varese), enters an expansion phase which in 2026 involves some of the main Italian cities – Rome, Milan, Bari, Naples – to which Rimini, Modena, Ferrara, Imola and Cuneo are added, with the aim of achieving widespread coverage by the end of 2027.
Pharmacies are a key step in the process as Andrea Mandelli, President of the Federation of Italian Pharmacists’ Orders (FOFI), explains to QuiFinanza.
