The deadline for submitting updated offers for the acquisition of the entire Asset of the former Ilva It was postponed to February 14th. The terms expired today 31 January 2025, but a work supplement was necessary since the three companies interested in the purchase of the steel group will have to better formulate and specify their proposal under industrial, employment and environmental profiles.
The dates to present the offer
The initial deadline for submitting binding offers, after the events of interest arrived by 20 September last, had been set for the end of November. Subsequently, the deadline had been postponed to January 10, and then reinforced again on January 31st. Now, a new postponement shifts the deadline to February 14, due to the complexity of the sales operation and the need to build a solid picture for the acquisition.
Three companies are running for the acquisition of the entire group:
- Jindal Steel from India;
- Baku Steel from Azerbaijan;
- Bedrock, an US investment fund.
Of these, alone Jindal has currently made public the guidelines of its offer, which includes a investment of 2 billion for decarbonisation.
In addition to the three offers for the complete acquisition, there are seven other proposals focused on specific assets of Arcelrmittal Italia (ADI), including that of Marcegaglia for the Sitigi, Salerno and France sites. At the moment there is no integration of the offers of Jindal and Baku offers, since the two groups are moving separately, but a possible future alliance between the two companies cannot be excluded.
Less workers are planned in the next ex Ilva
The trade unions highlight the need to protect the 4,000 workers involved and to encourage decarbonisation, asking that the transition to electric ovens does not involve a significant reduction in the workforce.
The Ilva of the future will have a lower number of employees than the current 10 thousand, of which about 8 thousand in Taranto. In 2024, ArceloMittal Italia (ADI) produced just over 2 million tons of steel and recorded a turnover of 1.2 billion.
A second altrophorn came into activity only in mid -October, while for the previous months, during the commissioner management that began on February 20, only one altlap was used, the number 4. For 2025, the company includes a production of 4 millions of tons and a turnover of 3 billion.
Urso-Bonelli dispute on the management of steelworks
Regarding the relaunches for the acquisition of the former Ilva, the Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso He declared that “the commissioners take care of it” and stressed that we are in an “extremely important and delicate” phase, in which it is preferable to maintain silence. The government recently made another 250 million euros available for the former Ilva.
“In the next few days we will bring the crisis of the Ilva to a solution that has lasted for ten years with another great international investor, who will be selected by the commissioners among the three who participate in the race, which will make that steel site in a short time the most green and The most advanced in Europe “, explains Urso.
In response, Angelo Bonelli, deputy of Avs and Co-Portavoce of Europe Verde, criticized the minister, accusing him of not introducing himself to respond to his parliamentary interpellation. “This once again demonstrates the disinterest in the future of the province of Taranto and its citizens,” said Bonelli. Furthermore, it highlighted that, despite the failure to respond, the government has launched decrees to guarantee only “the indispensable minimum” to Ilva and to modify the legislation on the integrated environmental authorization, without a clear vision on the future of Taranto.
