Irpef cut for the middle class, you save up to 1,440 euros per year

The works for the Budget Law 2026 already start, with the government engaged on several fronts in an attempt to satisfy the requests of the center -right parties. Like Forza Italia, who returns to ask for a cut of the Irpef, the income tax of those who receive a profit. But also the League, which in turn focuses on the scrapping quinquies of the tax folders.

How much you save with cutting

At the moment, the current tax structure includes three Irpef brackets:

  • 23% up to 28 thousand euros;
  • 35% between 28 thousand and 50 thousand euros;
  • 43% above 50 thousand euros.

Aimed at the middle class, the reduction of the Irpef aims to lighten the tax burden of those who, in recent years, supported most of the revenue, as explained by Maurizio Casasco, economic manager of Forza Italia:

It is the workhorse of Forza Italia. The middle class loaded most of the tax revenue on the shoulders, it is time that it has the necessary attention.

A reduction in the rate would guarantee, on an annual basis, a saving of 440 euros for income of up to 50 thousand euros and 1,440 euros to those between 50,001 and 60 thousand euros.

How much the cut costs

But the success of the operation will depend on the government’s ability to find certain resources. A not simple operation, given that the cost is estimated at around 4 billion euros, according to majority sources. If the Scaglione was extended only up to 50 thousand euros, the expense could be lower.

Precisely on the cost the major concerns of Giancarlo Giorgetti are concentrated, which invokes prudence in public accounts. Adequate covers are needed not to put public accounts at risk, since many tax dossiers are on the table: in addition to the decrease in the Irpef, also the possible fiscal peace (scrapping quinquies) and facilitated IRES for investments, all to be harmonized with rigor and sustainability constraints.

The blue proposal on IRPEF often clashed with the strong League idea in the tax field: scrapping. The examination of a bill presented by Matteo Salvini’s party is underway in the Finance Commission of the Senate: at the resumption of parliamentary works in September we will move on to the amendments phase.

What the parties ask for

There is not only the cutting of the IRPEF in government plans: the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci has announced an increase of two billion euros for the health sector, in the face of the pressure pressures, in particular of the Democratic Party. Then the need to stabilize the reward IRES, unlock funds for a thousand new prison police officers and support fashion with a tax credit of 250 million euros. To the attention of the government also the extension of the special economic areas to Umbria and Marche, already approved in the Council of Ministers.

No less urgent is the revision of the roof to salaries in the public administration, after the rejection by the Constitutional Court. On the social security front, the League pushes for blocking the retirement age, with an initial allocation of 200 million. Forza Italia, on the other hand, asks for the deduction of the extraordinary and the renewal of public contracts.

In the Finance Commission in the Senate, the bill on the maneuver is now in an advanced phase and, with the resumption of the works in September, it will enter the amendments phase. The League also proposed to finance a new tranche of “fiscal peace” with an extraordinary contribution of the banks, thus opening new maneuvering spaces.
