Italian-Kazakistan summit, 4 billion agreements for energy and raw materials

Italy and Central Asia strengthen economic and nergetical cooperation. This is what emerges from the mission of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who participated in the International summit in Astanain Kazakhstan, announcing new bilateral agreements for a value of over 4 billion euros. Among the themes at the center of the intensity: energy, gas, infrastructures and criticism raw materials.

According to Meloni it is a “historical moment” in the relations between Italy and Central Asia. The premier claimed the role of Italy as a forerunner of the entire European Union in starting lasting relationships with the countries of the area, strategic both for the energy routes and for the geopolitical stability in a difficult international context.

Understood by 4 billion

During the visit to Astana, Meloni signed a joint statement with President Kazako Qasym-Jomart Toqaev. The agreement provides for agreements for a value of over 4 billion euros and involves key sectors such as:

  • the oil and gas sector;
  • energy (including renewable and green energies);
  • the management of water resources;
  • mechanical engineering;
  • The agro -industrial complex.

Among the central points, also long -term cooperation in the field of critical raw materials, as well as support for the diversification of the structure of mutual commercial exchanges and the development of small and medium -sized enterprises. Objective: consolidate a stable relationship with central Asia as a strategic energy and industrial hub, just as already declared with Uzbekistan.

Bridge between Europe and Asia

In his speech, Giorgia Meloni evoked a long -term vision for the Relations between Europe and Central Asia:

This region has always been a crossroads between the West and the East, and occupies a strategic role in the global scenario.

The premier also mentioned Halford Mackinder’s thought, father of modern geopolitics:

He claimed that central Asia represents one of the cornerstones around which the fate of the world revolves. I am not a scholar of geopolitics, but I observe reality.

Looking to the future, he added that we must have the courage to look beyond our geographical boundaries and trace new paths. As?

Starting from what already unites us: I think of the energy sector, where our cooperation can make the difference, and to the critical raw materials, which can generate shared benefits.

Meloni then recalled the projects connected to the regeneration of Lake Aralthe commitment to the Italian Fund for the climate and the interest in investing in the strengthening of the Middle Corridor, strategic axis for the physical and digital connections between Europe and Asia:
