Meloni signs the agreement with Algeria, more gas for Italy

In the representative headquarters of the Prime Minister, Villa Pamphili, an important meeting between Algeria and Italy. During the ceremony, numerous institutional and commercial agreements were signed, to which the two countries had been working for several months.

The agreement between Eni and Sonatrach on the gas

At the center of the entire meeting is inevitably the gas. After the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the consequent reduction of commercial relations with Moscow, Algeria has become the first methane supplier in our country. Through the Transmed gas pipeline, which arrives in Mazzara del Vallo, in Sicily, Italy every year matters about a third of all the gas that buys from abroad right from the North African country.

To strengthen these supplies, Eni and Sonatrach they signed a protocol with two objectives:

  • strengthen the safety of gas supply;
  • evaluate the extension of the supply contract, which expires in 2027.
