The calendar of the Milan Stock Exchange and the opening and closing times in 2025

Also Business Square goes on vacation. Like other international financial markets, the Italian Stock Exchange observes pauses during the holidays. Below, all the information on the Piazza Affari calendar for 2025: holidays, times and more generally the extraordinary closing and opening days, as well as the closings of After-Hours trading.

Closing days in 2025

Borsa Italiana will be closed for all trading, including the After-Hours segment, on the following days:

  • all Saturdays;
  • all Sundays;
  • Wednesday January 1, 2025;
  • Friday April 18, 2025 (Good Friday) and Monday 21 April 2025 (Easter Monday);
  • Thursday May 1, 2025 (Labor Day);
  • Friday August 15, 2025 (Feast of the Assumption);
  • Wednesday December 24, 2025 (Christmas Eve), Thursday December 25, 2025 (Christmas) and Friday December 26, 2025 (Saint Stephen’s Day);
  • Wednesday December 31, 2025 (New Year’s Eve).

On the contrary, on two public holidays the market will remain open with the usual trading hours; this is the case of Thursday 25 April (Anniversary of the Liberation) and Friday November 1st (All Saints’ Day).

The closing days of the After-Hours segment

The After-Hours segment, i.e. trading on shares that takes place after the regular closing of the financial markets, will be closed on the following days:

  • Thursday 2, Friday 3, Monday 6 January 2025;
  • Thursday 17 April 2025;
  • Friday 25 April 2025;
  • Monday 2 June 2025;
  • Friday 1, Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 6, Thursday 7, Friday 8, Monday 11, Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13, Thursday 14, Monday 18, Tuesday 19, Wednesday 20, Thursday 21, Friday 22, Monday 25, Tuesday 26 , Wednesday 27, Thursday 28 and Friday 29 August 2025;
  • Monday 8, Monday 22, Tuesday 23, Monday 29, Tuesday 30 December 2025.

On all other days not indicated, which are not included in the total closures of 2025, the After-Hours segment will be open to trading.

Opening hours

The trading hours in the various sections of the Italian Stock Exchange are well defined and include the opening auction, continuous trading, the closing auction and trading at the closing auction price, all established by the Economic Calendar of the Italian Stock Exchange. It is essential for investors to be aware of these times to properly plan their trades.

In the MTA (Mercato Telematico Azionario) market, the opening auction takes place from 08:00 to 09:00, followed by continuous negotiation from 09:00 to 17:30. The closing auction takes place from 5.30pm to 5.35pm, and trading at the closing auction price takes place from 5.35pm to 5.42pm. For the MIV (Electronic Investment Vehicles Market) sector, the opening hours are almost the same: the opening auction is held from 08:00 to 09:00, continuous trading is active from 09:00 to 17:30, and the closing auction runs from 5.30pm to 5.35pm.

In the MOT Market, dedicated to government bonds, the opening auction takes place from 08:00 to 09:00, followed by continuous trading until 17:30. For the ETFPlus market, which covers ETFs and derivatives, continuous trading is available from 09:00 to 17:30, while the closing auction takes place from 17:30 to 17:35.

Finally, the IDEM market (Italian Derivatives Market), dedicated to derivative instruments, has an opening session from 08:30 to 09:00, followed by continuous daytime trading from 09:00 to 17:49:59. The evening continuous trading session is held from 5.50pm to 8.30pm.
