The Freshly grated Grana Padano DOP sold in supermarkets Conad Italy was recalled by the chain itself due to the possible presence of micro plastic fragments in the cheese detected during internal checks. The notice was published by the company within its stores and on the section of its personal website dedicated to consumer notices. The recall, it is specified, is for precautionary and autonomous purposes, with the company also specifying that there are no risks concrete for the health of consumers.
Grated Grana Padano DOP recalled: the batches
The small pieces of plastic inside the cheese were found by Conad within a specific lot Of Freshly grated Grana Padano DOP. This is about the number 24149whose expiry date is set for July 15, 2024. This product batch is sold in trays of 150 grams each one.
The product is one of those that are prepared for Conad by other companies and sold under the supermarket chain’s brand. This specific batch was made for Conad by the company Ambrosi SpAwhich is a dairy regularly authorised by the Grana Padano consortium and with its production plant in via Michelino 59 in Bologna (identification mark IT 03 159 CE; Consortium authorisation BS10/91).
The reasons for Conad’s recall
To clarify the reasons for the recall of the batch of Freshly grated Grana Padano DOP was Conad same which, in the notice to its customers dated 27 June 2024, specifies that this is a procedure of a non-binding nature precautionary taken following internal checks. It is thanks to these that “the possible presence of micro plastic fragments” inside the cheese, with the large-scale retail chain opting for the recall.
Refund to consumers
Also within its notice, Conad specifies the procedures that consumers who have purchased the affected batch of Freshly grated Grana Padano DOP must follow.
“Consumers in possession of the above-mentioned packages are requested to do not consume cheese and to return it to the point of purchase for a replacement or a reimbursement – it reads – Although the presence of these fragments does not constitute a health risk and the problem only affects a part of the production, we still invite customers who are in possession of the product belonging to the same batch to return it to the Conad point of sale where it was purchased, which will replace it with another product or provide a refund”. The notice then ends with the large-scale retail chain apologizing to consumers for the inconvenience caused.
Carrefour recalls frozen raspberries
Even the supermarket chain Carrefour has recently recalled a product of his. This is a batch of frozen whole raspberries under brand Carrefour Bio in which the “presence of Norovirus dangerous to human health” is possible. The product is sold in 400 gram bags with the number of lot 50616301 and the minimum durability date (TMC) 03/04/2026. The manufacturing company is Fruits Rouges de l’Aisne, which operates for supermarkets and is based at 1 Rue Jean Bodin, in Laon, France (identification mark 421 437 591 00223).
